Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

I looks like the ball crossed the plane, but thats only because Melton's enormous gravity field is distorting the light around him. The officials in the booth were aware of this and made the right call.
I wish they had gotten it right. then we wouldn't have been on the 1 yard line, we would have had a better chance of scoring with either TG or Santonio returning the kickoff. All I remember of that play from what seems like 8 million miles away was saying "let them score".

edit: not scoring on the kickoff, but a better chance of scoring with both a kickoff return posibility and a higher probability of being closer than 99 yards from the endzone.

I just wish Antonio Smith hadn't missed the tackle on Dimebag Taylor for the safety.

To me, that was the play that swung momentum away from us.

Too bad he couldn't show the elusiveness with the police.

I really miss having him on our team. His talents were so amazing. Still, he was such flighty player. Often, when trapped in the backfield, he would always try to break free, even when the sensible thing was to just bury his head and take a no gain. He would lose 8-12 yards with his antics, OR break free and score. The almost-safety was classic Romance. When he fumbled a hand off from VY in the Rose Bowl, he bent over and tried to casually pick up the ball. Luckily for us, VY threw himself on the ball and saved a drive. Still, we sure could use him against your D.

I believe that Hamby drop took place with about 6:30 left in the 3rd quarter. Let me say that again, the 3RD QUARTER. If you can't understand how clock, lead, situation all factor into how a team executes a more conservative versus a more aggressive gameplan as a game winds on, well, then I guess you're pretty much the same as the guy that keeps talking about Hamby's drop and our 25 whopping points as the end-all-be-all of inmature, narrow-minded fans.

I understand full well how time, score, field position, personnel availability, and a ton of other factors are involved. Actually, I think you just hurt you own argument. Had Hamby caught the ball, not only are we up 10 instead of 6, we build upon the momentum we already had. However, his drop not only held us to 3 points vice 7, it essentially halted our momentum and gave the Texas team a much-needed boost...it was not only a 4-point swing, but an emotional swing as well.

He had his knee on the ground. How was he not down? Is there a rule that I don't know about in college football, where you can have your knee down in the endzone if you think it's a touchback, and if it isn't you're allowed to get up and run around?

I'm just curious. Ohio State could have and should have stopped Texas many other times, and didn't.

Everything about our experience in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><ST1:pColumbus last year was awesome except.....the fact that only selected plays were replayed on the Jumbo Tron.

Believe me, you are not the only one frustrated by that fact...I know there's a point in every game I go to where I have to ask myself "Why the hell build a 20 gazillion dollar scoreboard and never show a damn replay?"...
