The difference I see (and granted, I watched the OSU-Texas game from 10 levels from the top of OSU stadium and bits and pieces after) is that with Texas, the RB stands next to the QB. When the ball is hiked to the QB, it goes right into the midsection of the RB. The gimmick being he can hand off to the RB, he can keep it and throw, he can keep it and run.

The colts just use play action, but it's not the same formation every time......and even then once the ball doesn't go to Edge, you know it's a pass.

Perhaps the same reason Jim Tressel and his assistants spent time in Morgantown this year or why Paterno's assistants spent time in Austin last year. To incorporate certains aspects of an offense into their offensive scheme. I highly doubt Greg Davis came back with Tom Moore's entire playbook and implemented it all last year.

Ok, well I was not trying to say that we have their playbook; however after rereading my posts I can see why it would look like I was. All I was trying to show was that Texas does not run a "gimmeck" offense, but rather uses the same zone running principles that the broncos and colts have made so well known

The zone running aspect isn't the gimmick, in fact I'd say 90% of football teams past the high school level use zone running plays as a staple of their offense. The aspect of Texas' offense last year that was gimmicky was the fact all their offense originated in the read option. And I in no way meant it as an insult when I called Texas' offense gimmicky the way UT fans do when they talk about Tech's offense.

I really don't have a problem with the term gimmick(or gadget for that matter) other than the fact that in football, it belittles the actuall numbers put up by the players....and I, being the fan I am of the texas longhorns, refuse to call their offense a gimmick

Just for reference, Ahmard Hall is on the Tennessee Titans now, fighting for a roster spot.

This thread is out of control today, I see that UTMNC was saving up lots of fire during his temporary banning.

As for the disucssion about our offense being rated the best in the big XII, I have to say that the Big XII was fairly weak last year as an offensive conference. I personally wouldn't rate Tech above UT, as they are also bringing in a new QB, and lost their solid RB. I wouldn't put Nebraska there yet either, too many questions. A&M= new QB, and they suck. The only other team that you could consider would be OU? And they might have OL problems. I think its a safe pick to think that UT will have a beastly offensive line and running game, with somewhat of a passing game, that does set us above the pack. I do think that some people on this board overplay the suckage of the Big XII, but I agree that the Big XII is at a low point. UT and OU are consistently solid, and Tech can pull off some miracles at times, but with A&M and Fran bringing College Station back to reality, and the rest of the North fighting each other to acheive mediocrity, the conference is down. Which is good news for UT this year with a freshman QB.

Tangently, If Hawkins can succeed at the bigger school, if Nebraska can continue its reinvention under Callahan, if Stoops can find a way to succeed w/ Bomar, if Mizzou gets a new coach, if Iowa State continues to be solid, if KState brings back the juco express, if Gundy can keep bringing in key recruits, if Baylor continues to steal recruits from Aggy, then we can start talking about being one of the top conferences again. But admittedly, that's a truckload of ifs.

Luckily, UT was one of only two teams to run the table last year, as the Big XII schedule could have potentially hurt them.

I'll sure as hell be glad when this game is over, so I don't have to wade through fucking 5 pages per hour worth of posts. HL alone has 2,100 posts, virtually all in the two UT game threads. Unfucking real.

Only because of Young...defenses couldn't lock down the run (like we did) because of the focus they had on Young.
