Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

I would go as far as to say last year's Texas offense was as gimmicky as any Tech has put on the field, just gimmicky in a more productive way. And I have the feeling that the media was taking into account the loss of Taurian Henderson for Tech, The pride of the Gatesville Hornets and one of the more productive backs in Big XII history.

You are either prepared to call OSU's offense gimmicky (owing to designed runs for an athletic QB, and OSU's cas the "Shot-Ginn") or you are just taking a shot at Texas.

just my observation.

Well when your entire offense consists almost solely of your QB putting the ball in the back's midsection, then deciding to hand it off, keep it, or throw it, I'd say that is up there on the gimmick meter. It's in no way to take a shot at Texas. It is merely just an observation on my part, just like people saying TT has a gimmick offense. Obviously both those gimmicky offenses (with the right personnel) work.

I fail to see how your description of Texas' O with Young last year is any different than Smith at OSU. Edit: I take back the "shot at Texas" part, since it appears you're not using "Gimmick" in a "bad" way.

Yeah I am talking about the Yoeman, I just think it is a stupid nickname.
  1. An attendant, servant, or lesser official in a royal or noble household.
I know Texas had a balanced offense, but it still doesn't change the fact that it was gimmicky in my opinion. And I still don't see how that offense is going to run smoothly with a freshman who doesn't have anywhere near the running ability of a Vince Young.

i knew that was coming... the only problem with that statement is the fact that Mike Leach is building a winner and has been picking up some pretty decent talent recently... what happens when he starts getting the 5* guys instead of the 3*s? will Tech count then?

When Mike leach starts to convince anyone that Lubbock is anything other than a sand box i'll start to worry. I agree he has done an amazing job, and that he is getting better players, but for the sake of this conversation I felt it more interesting to leave out the raiders. if you would like to put them back into the discussion then i would call tech and texas 1a and 1b in terms of returning offense

We run more of a spread offense, although we will probably see less of that this year, whereas Texas runs (ran?) a QB option-read type of offense. I've heard we are adding some option read into our offense this year, but it won't be our staple like it was for Texas last year.

fair enough... sometime i'd like to see what he could do with a few top 10 classes...
