Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

Last I checked Holmes had the biggest play of the night for yall

I was hoping someone caught my statistical slight of hand....

Holmes, S 4 73 1 36

Pittman, Billy 5 130 1 63

Removing each players Biggest play:
Holmes, 12.3 YPC
Pittman, 16.75 YPC

Not sure that 4 yards is statistically signifigant using such a small sample. In fact, I'm pretty sure it isn't signifigant at all... However, in 'real game' importance, it certainly did make a differnece... Holmes' 36 yarder was also a TD... take that away, and UT doesn't need Young to Sweed.

how do your posts do anything but kiss @$$.. but anyway as for finding it hard to believe we are returning the best offense in the big 12 last year some said we had the best o line last year and we return three players and the two replacements are a former 5 star recruit and the brother of a former all american our receivers will also be a strength this year if i remember correctly billy pittman had 135 yards on 5 receptions which is better than holmes or ginn combined that game.

"The Brother of a former all American" Oh brother, where art thou?

Why is that so hard...We return Key players at ever spot except one....regardless of how large that one spot may have been....we still have a VERY talented offense

Come on, HL. You make it sound like you guys are losing an offensive guard. Losing a starting QB is tough for any team. But losing VY, who is one of the best college QBs ever? It could just be me, but it doesn't seem like many UT fans who post here want to admit that VY was such a key factor to the NC last year.

on an unrelated note...how would you like to be the manning brother that didn't play QB?

I didn't know there were more Manning brothers. If there are more, they'll probably all win the same number of Super Bowls as Eli and Peyton combined.

Just kidding. Peyton will win one within a couple of years, I think. The NFL may have to pull some strings, like they did for Elway. But they don't want/need another Dan Marino.

Back to the thread: I predict Troy Smith throws 19 touchdowns, Zwick throws for 7, Boeckman for 4, and Schoenhoft throws for 2 (both caught by himself). Alright, alright - 32 touchdowns is absurd. But remember, Tressel won't run up the score. So he'll have someone like Josh Kerr playing QB the second half.

I'm not HL, obviously, but ....

Yeah, it is tough. Such is the life of college football. Having lots of returning talent makes the transition a lot easier. Will a green QB be enough to beat OSU in the second game of the year? I hope not. But, one great thing about Freshman, is by the end of the year, they've gone from "Green" to "Expierenced" The evaluation kicking off this subdiscussion is about UT's rank offensively in the Big XII projected over a year. By the end of 06, I'd expect UT's numbers to be at or very near the top of the Big XII as well, green QB or no.

I agree that losing VY more closely resembles filling the grand canyon than filling a pot hole. However, we still have an incredibly deep offense returning. We wont be as good as last year but that team was the highest scoring offense in the Nation(and maybe ever? is that wrong? someone look that up) This one just has to be the best in the big 12. As was said before. Toss out tech because it is a gimmick and we don't count them anyway. That leaves OU, Neb, aTm, and maybe Iowa state....We have more returning talent than any of them and should be the best offense in the big 12 next year

The same could be said about the tOSU defense having to replace 8 starters.

I didn't know there were more Manning brothers.

There was an older brother, Cooper Manning. Unlikely that he will ever return to football, he was at one time a highly thought of player, but not at QB.

wiki

Cooper Manning is the eldest brother of current NFL quarterback Peyton Manning and Eli Manning and son of former NFL quarterback Archie Manning. He was an All-State wide receiver in high school before a disease removed him from football in 1992, his senior year. He currently works for Howard Weil, Labouisse and Friedrichs Inc., an energy research firm in New Orleans

As for this small game happening in Austin on Septmeber 9th and UT's Offensive ranking in the Big 12. I can buy that they receive a #1 in Big 12 rank from CFN. They could of course have blessed Oklahoma with that moniker, though that would assume Bomar becomes all that and a bag of chips, and demands that AP stays completely robust and helathy. They could as BKB pointed out have given the nod to some other team, purely based on yards output. Texas Tech certainly fits that bill, and you could, I suppose, argue, once again that A&M would surprise everybody.
What I believe to be inarguable is that Texas returns as the most balanced team in the Big 12. And, in terms of the 9/9 game, I wouldn't have it any other way than that the Buckeyes get a chance for a storied victory away from home, under the lights, against the best overall team (or offense) in the Big 12.
