Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

UTMNC, I think it's time you took a few days off to reevaluate your time here. I wonder if you're simply a lost cause at this point. The thread has just degraded into a slew of posts poking fun at you. Still you keep digging the hole deeper. I seriously doubt that anyone could or would take anything you have to say seriously from this point forward. I hold little hope that you can post without hitting the bottle. I have less faith in your ability to post only when you have something pertinent to add to the conversation.

Frankly, many members here would like to have a reasonable discussion about the Texas game. A great deal of those people would like to share views with Texas fans. Your participation in this thread is making that next to impossible without the pointed remarks intended for you. It is obvious that those remarks are being viewed as flames directed towards the Texas fan base in general. That is not acceptable. Our frustration with you will not be allowed to morph into a distain for the good Texas fans we have visiting this site. It is not fair to them or to us. You leave me with almost no option but to remove you from BuckeyePlanet.

Well if all we go by is what the media say's then, ND is better than both Texas and tOSU by far, and B. Quinn is better than T. Smith, and every other position.

Soooooo.....if the media keeps harping on all of these starters tOSU's defense must replace, yet, in the same fashion that you know about UT's replacements and their talents, we, as tOSU fans, should be comfortable knowing that the media is full of misguided fallacies and that our own premonitions of said replacements' talent should be the key factor in our assessments?

Niiiiiiiiice.

No you shouldn't be comfortable, and neither are Texas fans.

Remember that quarterback quandary that some think cost Ohio State the game last season against Texas?

This year, the Longhorns appear to have the same kind of Jim Tressel faced with Troy Smith and Justin Zwick.

Texas coach Mack Brown told reporters at the Big 12 media gathering in Kansas City this week that he doesn’t know whether he will play one quarterback or two against the Buckeyes when they visit Austin on Sept. 9.

"Whether we’ll play two quarterbacks against Ohio State is an unanswerable question at this point," Brown said. "We’ll probably have a decision made during the week, and it’s one that could change during the game.

"Everything we decide will be based on what we think we should do to win the game. Two quarterbacks opens you up to more questions. It opens you up to more criticism. But our job is to win the game."
The Longhorns’ quest to find a replacement for Vince Young was one of the major topics of conversation at the Big 12 confab. Brown admits he would prefer to play just one quarterback but says he doesn’t know whether and when redshirt freshman Colt McCoy or true freshman Jevan Snead will emerge as the clear favorite.

"We’ll probably have a decision made during the week, and it’s one that could change during the game. "

why put it like this Mack? you make it sound wishy washy, like your not in charge and can't make up your mind.....Just come out and say it..."We will not hesitate to pull the qb and let the other guy play"

Don't get me wrong, I HATE THE TWO QB SYSTEM!! but I believe that most Texas fans, including myself have enough perspective to look at the forest for the trees. This is not some contrived competition between Vince and Chance, where it was clear who should be playing. This sure as hell isn't playing the freshman over the returning Big 12 offensive player of the year. Rather, this is a true competition. Two freshman fighting for the chance to lead the team they chose to join. I don't ask that you pick one from the start and stubbornly support him regardless of results. All I ask is that when one of them does produce results you don't reward him with a clipboard because it is not "his series"

Agree HL. QB rotations never, ever work, yet coaches continue to do it over and over and over again, especially at the college level. I am with Parcells when he says, "When you say you've got two quarterbacks, that really means you don't have any."

Mack deserves the benefit of the doubt right now, as it is, after all, only July. If he hasn't made his decision by the end of August though, then it might be time to hit the panic button.

UTMNC, you'll get no argument from anyone on this site about Pittman. He is being grossly underrated by every single publication this preseason. Pitt should not be rated so far behind Albert Young, Kenny Irons, or Mike Hart, when his numbers were comparable or better.

Fantasy considerations are wildly different from real world considerations. Pittman's 31 is largely due to the idea that Wells will be getting the short yardage carries. I would put no credenece in any fantasy list as an indicator of talent evaluation. Darius Walker the 10th best back in the nation? Please. The fact that he caught 43 balls helps his fantasy value, but no one in their right mind should think he's better than Jamaal Charles (14), for example.
