Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

Anyone having read my posts on this thread over the last week or so will know I'm just as frustrated with UTMNC as anyone else.. but, lets give him a chance to redeem himself. He's got a long road in front of him where credibility is concerned, but I think 3yards post pretty much put it out there.. this is it.

If we don't want this to be UTMNC's "personal thread" then lets all stop talking ABOUT him, and start talking TO him (me included).

I find it a little hard to believe CFN's statement that UT has the #1 returning offense in the Big XII. If it's true, that's not saying much for the rest of the conference.

Why is that so hard...We return Key players at ever spot except one....regardless of how large that one spot may have been....we still have a VERY talented offense

we will move the ball on every team we play this year. Which i am sure you will say says more about the defense in the big 12

Having lost Young is huge, but where else did UTs O take a signifigant hit? I suppose I could argue TTU has the #1 returning O going by total offense projections, but really I can't take issue with the remark that UTs O is "the #1 returning O in the Big XII" OU's offense could be rated higher than I give them credit, but the fact that they're replacing much of their line hurts the value of both Bomar and Peterson.. and consequently their young WR corps...

I don't know.. UT may not be "#1" in fact, but the statement isnt outlandish. And, your larger point of what that says about "the rest of the conference," I think, is true. I don't anticipate that Big XII teams will be moving the ball around like the Pac 10.. but then, with the exception of the "top" ofthe Conf. did they ever? That's not a slam, just saying. I would guess, on my admittedly less than complete analysis, if the BIg XII as a Conf. puts up great O numbers this year, its because Big XII D's are not as good as anticipated, on the whole.

And how does your post contribute to the matchup between Texas and tOSU?
how do your posts do anything but kiss @$$.. but anyway as for finding it hard to believe we are returning the best offense in the big 12 last year some said we had the best o line last year and we return three players and the two replacements are a former 5 star recruit and the brother of a former all american our receivers will also be a strength this year if i remember correctly billy pittman had 135 yards on 5 receptions which is better than holmes or ginn combined that game.

Pittman, Billy 5 130 1 63

I'm not a fan of the thinking "take away Pittmans long and he wasn't that great" but, Ill note it anyway. I mean, yes, Pittman did outgain Holmes and Ginn, and it begs the question, why didn't Holmes or Ginn have the 63 yarder if they're so good?
But,

Holmes, S 4 73 1 36

And, removing the one big play (the biggest gain of the game, I might add)

Pittman, Billy 4 63 1 63

Comparable.

Again... I'm not saying Pittman's actual numbers should be discounted. Just saying the "big play" can happen at any time,.. it happend for Pittman, and didn't for Holmes... If Holmes caught 1 more ball, maybe it goes for 60 yards... Doesn't change the fact that he didn't.. of course... but it's not unusal to take the "outliers" out of a statistical comparison.. and the 63 yarder that Pittman got is clearly "unusual" in comparison to the rest of the numbers under consideration.

Was Greg Bellisari an All-American? If so, then maybe his brother, Steve, was pretty good.

I don't care who your brother is. You're the guy on the field. You're making the plays.
