Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

DI and DIAA coaching is far more comparable than DI and NFL.

For one, DI and DIAA are both college expierences. NFL, obviously, is pro. The way you treat/teach etc. college kids is incredibly different than what you need to do to get professionals on the same page (largely ego driven).

A "great" college coach failing at the next level is almost routine. NFL coaches don't always "move back" to college and dominate, although I would say the move from the NFL to College is probably the easier move to make.

bkb, your just flat out wrong. im sorry to say but its true. xray is 100% correct in his assertion that charlie weiss is the single greatest coach in the history of college football. 3 super bowls bkb... 3.. IN THE PROS! you can't compete with that with your piddly little div1A or AA stats.

Okay, this should make OSU fans mad. (it certainly made me mad) I just got off the OU board with a poster who says our game with you isn't big because it's being played in Austin, rather than Columbus, and that it won't be that hard. What a crock!

Ask him about how big a game it was the last time OSU and OU played (In Norman, I might add) Actually, he might not say very big.. but you could remind him of the result.

But his team wasn't facing teams coached by Div 1A coaches. He did very well coaching against lesser competition, but it isn't the same as facing a Div1A program.

Tressel at Youngstown State (15 years)
135-57-2 (.701)

Tressel at Ohio State (5 years)
50-13-0 (.793)

Well damn, I guess you're right. Apparently it is EASIER to coach at the D-1A level than the D-1AA. Fact is that Tressel's D-1AA record BRINGS DOWN his overall W-L record. How does THAT sit with you? Can't wait for your next twist of logic to support your faulty premise.:tongue2:

Hummm, better add Carroll to those other coaches better than Mack.

Pete Carroll
2005 12-1-0...............(.923)
2004 13-0-0 (25-1-0) (.962)
2003 12-1-0 (37-2-0) (.949)
2002 11-2-0 (48-4-0) (.923)
2001 6-6-0 (54-10-0) (.844)

Mack Brown
2005 13-0-0...............(1.000)
2004 11-1-0 (24-1-0) (.960)
2003 10-3-0 (34-4-0) (.895)
2002 11-2-0 (45-6-0) (.882)
2001 11-2-0 (56-8-0) (.875)

Ok, so here is the "coaching levels" arguement taken to its logical extreme....

Do you think that Pat Summitt is as good of a coach as Coach K?

Actually, yeah. I would guess she knows the Xs and Os about as well as Kscrewshitski, and she definitely gets as much out of her players as he does.

Yeah, and he did so with lesser personnel. Sheesh, why is that so hard to understand? You really need to cease trying to break down the game of football to nothing but stats and percentages, and look at the human element.
Which is one thing that people tend to dismiss when discussing Tressel's D1AA record. Youngstown St. was not a national power before JT arrived, and hasn't been since he left, so it's not like he had the talent that some D1AA superpowers, like Georgia Southern, had.

Also, regarding the D1A coaches at the D1AA level, I just realized the Tressel's YSU teams also beat Samford (Terry Bowden), Maine (Kirk Ferentz) and Georgia Southern (Paul Johnson), and virtually every single team that comprises the current MAC conference, when many of them were 1AA or even 1A independents, such as Akron (Gerry Faust).
