Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

Bkb,

Please update with 2005 season records. Reading that would be much more enjoyable if you did.

Like Nebraska? Sorry, couldn't resist. Can't argue too much with the rest. The conference has been pretty mediocre. Conference rankings always produce some lively conversations- so I'll throw this one out there: The SEC is completely overrated. Their record vs. BCS conferences the last few years is just as bad if not worse than the OOC record the Big 12 posted (2005 not included of course).

I haven't done an SEC analysis... But, it wouldn't surprise me.. What's more, you'll find that SEC teams rarely ever leave the region to play OOC games. In short, I'd tend to agree that the SEC is over rated, top to bottom...

Frankly, when I wrote that I was curious if running the same number analysis on the Big 10 would result in similar results. To be sure, the Big 10 has its also rans...

Here's an interesting tidbit I found on Ramonce. I am part of an online network called Facebook, which basically links college students from different places (as well as alumni). In my UT network, Ramonce is one of my friends. Anyways, on Facebook you have wall where people can leave you messages. I have been checking the wall of Ramonce since his pot charges, and I found something intriguing yesterday. It appears that Quan Cosby (WR) wrote this on his wall (and I quote):

<script><!-- if (!is_supported_js_browser()) {location.href = "http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&safe=off&q=Alessandra&nojs=1";}//--> </script><table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%"><tbody><tr><td id="tDataText9" align="center" valign="top" width="14%">
</td></tr></tbody></table>"It's 4 oz of weed, less than 5 pounds; So 4oz of weed was found in his car, and they can't even prove it was his; RT didn't get busted w/ 5pounds of weed, as a lot of readers thought they understood; Unfortunately, most of us are misled by the elusive writings which reflect the opinions of certain sports analysts; even the best of the best readers tend to read with a preconceived notion at times...please read your source carefully before throwing accusations..."

I find this interesting as it is the first time that another UT footbally player has defended or said anything to Ramonce on his wall (this was in response to a few people who were mocking Ramonce). It also appears that it's 4oz. not 5 lbs. (either way, weed is weed and illegal no matter what). Take this for what it's worth any nothing more...

Both have different teams from last year

The game last year was won by Vince Young, Tressel's indecision on qbs, and our secondary's fear of Vince (in my opinion). We could debate this forever and people can bring up great points for either side. You beat us last year in a great game at one of the toughest stadiums to play in. You went on to have a National Championship season and we went on to have a pretty good season as well.

None of what we say here changes last year and none of it will change this year. Everyone knows the strengths and weaknesses of both teams and that you have home field advantage. The thing is that without Vince Young we are not worried. I am not saying you do not have a great athletic team, but you have no proven big game experience in your qb (let alone much experience at that). We did lose a big part of our defense, but we do have a very good group of guys filling in those roles. I don't think anyone will be at the level of Hawk on our LB squad (even though we have some great talent back there), but you definitely have no one close to Vince Young on your squad filling in at QB.

We all (Bucks Fans) underestimated Vince Young last year and his ability to win, but you do not have him running the team this year and your offense is not as good as ours. We have one of the best o-lines in college ball this year and have one of the best qbs (who wins us games when he plays the entire game) with a great set of wrs (ginn has done a lot to improve his wr skills) and we have a great pair of rbs in the back field.

On paper I like our odds against you this year even though it is at your place. I have a feeling you are gonna go through another Chris Sims-like era. Great team with potential, but cannot win the big game. Regardless of the arguing and debating that goes on here... come game day we all know that both teams will play at an amazing level and give all of us a great game.

Now, let's list where the bowls are played. Looks to me like most of the games are @ Home for SEC and Big XII teams. I think that's a huge advantage. Tell me that playing in Pasedena wasn't a huge advantage for USC this year. If we're going to base the final standings on BCS and other bowl games, then lets move some of the games to Big 10, Big East venues. If the pros can play in Green Bay in January so can college teams.

Honestly I'm perfectly happy that the Big 12 has had a representative in 5 of the last 6 championships even if it means that the mediocre teams in the conference are, well, mediocre. It sure beats having 1 team in the championship game in the same time period.

I'll be even happier if those trends continue.:)

Thanks for the link, Dryden. Interesting stuff.

And the Big 12 didn't do all that bad last season. 15-5 was second only to the Big 10.

Cincibuck, I ain't scared of no snow! I think the rest of the country is though- the Bowl reps probably think it would hurt attendance from the southern teams. But yeah, for the sake of fairness, I'd have to agree.

The "Bowl Game Reps" are little more than adjunct's of the Sun Belt's Chamber of Commerce. That's fine. Why not try and bring a little business your way and when the final rankings were based on regular season play that was fair.

But when the BCS was established (and even before) the final rankings were suppossed to come from them. The Big 10 was foolish to cave into such a season finale and after a long history of getting hosed in Pasedena they should have known better.

Fairly eloquent use of the english language used in this rebutal by Q. Cosby. The young Soph. must be an English major. Oh hell, I forgot he's almost 30 years old, never mind.

If I'm reading this correctly, you're against the Big 10's tie-in to the Rose Bowl? While I certainly understand the logic, I've never encountered a fan of a Big 10 team who is against the idea of a Pasadena Rose Bowl. But given my insulated southern existence, that is a popular view for all I know.

I think what he is saying is that the Big 10 should have learned that home field advantage is alive and well in bowl games, The rose bowl should have been a warning for the big 10 after years of traveling to "home" games in pasadena
