Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

So Charles will be running into the D-Line and fairly quick LB corps without the benefit of a lead blocker most of the time? Sounds great to me.

ND had a fairly successful running game thanks to some good lead blocking, I'd be happy to avoid that situation again.

if you think nd has a better running game than us by all means continue to think that. oh year you know texas will have the best o line in the country this year according to most annuals we lost two players from last years line but are replacing them with a 5 star recruit(from 03 i think) tony hills and derrick dockery the brother of the former all american longhorn. so dont worry there will be plenty of blocking

I sense the torch of "Most Optimistic and Enthusiastic" Longhorn fan being yanked from my firm grasp even as I read this post.:(

Doesn't seem to hurt the Denver broncos too much.....I don't think that teams have needed a fullback since 1996

Year in and year out Texas has one of the top rushing attacks in the nation. Next year will be no different in this regard anyway

Not to dispute your excellent rushing game, year in year out, but your RBs rushed 17 times for 39 yards, ND's RB's rushed 18 times for 94 yards against OSU.

High Lonesome: Forgive me for interupting this great football dialogue, but my Buckeye wife and I just returned from Branson (a family outing), and took in a Texas Swing band, "Texas Mud", with leader Ricky Boen. 7 instruments, great traditional arrangements, super fiddles and guitars. We're not especially western music fans, but this presentation was first class.

Talked to quite a few Texas fans there; they are confident of a win over our Bucks in September. I always replied: "We'll give you Horns a good game, with a few surprises."

Spread offense and misdirection can be a bitch. See Florida State defense last year. They had linebackers running really fast, the wrong way. I don't know if that will be a problem, but the game being this big may result in some over exuberance from our new linebacking corps.

I must be honest, I don't understand your assertion here. You can't possibly be suggesting ND's running attack is better than Texas' simply on account of one game from last year.

I guess Indiana's backfield is better than Texas as well:

Indiana

Rushing No Gain Loss Net TD Lg Avg
-------------------------------------------------
Sears, J. 6 27 0 27 0 10 4.5
Taylor, C. 10 20 2 18 0 6 1.8
Washington, Y. 6 18 0 18 0 8 3.0
Powers, B. 4 0 21 -21 0 0 -5.2
Totals... 26 65 23 42 0 10 1.6</pre>

I'm not asserting anything just posting statistics, and statistics can be such fun (or lies).
I am wondering whether texas fans are being realistic about how their offense is going to work without a 1000yd rusher at quarterback, they seem to have gotten used to that being a part of their offense, and I doubt it will be next year.

Texas has excellent talent at many positions, but not at fullback, which they say wasn't a large part of their offense last year anyways...will that be the case without a Vince Young taking snaps?

Well it worked...you have me fired up so here goes.

texas is a rushing team and has been since as long as any of us can remember. Mack Brown has done nothing to change this. We have had a 1000 yard back every year since Ricky and i don't see that changing this year.

to say that Indiana had a better rushing attack than Texas is so beyond ridiculous that I'll just go on to the next point, that they had a better game against tOSU than Texas.

While I'll give you they had more yards on the ground, I will not say they had a better game.

Before sept. 10th last year JT had his mind made up that Texas would not run the ball on him. With good reason I might add, he had watched the rose bowl vs. mich. too. No one thought that Vince could beat them with his arm and the bucks were determined to make him try. In the end this is exactly what happend. So yes, indiana did rush for more yards than Texas, but it is my contention that they did so due to the fact that the bucks defense sold out to stop the run against texas more so than any other time last year. i would be willing to bet that against indiana there was a much more basic defense that was shown and played that day.

As far as being use to a 1000 yrd rushing quarterback, hardly. I don't doubt we will have one next year, I am down right certain we will not. But I am just as sure that we will be able to run the ball next year, and it will have little to do with the fullback possision
