Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

Wow!!! Now thats the type of overly-scrutinized, compartive analysis I was hoping for when I made that post! Now we're back on track.

So yes, as I said, part of that statement was viewed as a jumpstart to an otherwise stagnant game thread, and I thought that'd stir the pot a little, but nonetheless, there is a lot of validity to my statement.
Well you did get the thread going, but chill out, maybe its "stagnant", but both schools have high seeds in another sporting event coming up that may garner some attention and some of the posters internet time. As soon as March madness is over, I believe we shall see much more activity on this thread. It might even be the best thread in the country, although it will only be in its second year.

Before the thread goes stagnant against, thought I'd point out that in J.Charles' "unimpressive" game vs. yall last September that he had 95 yards of offense (w/ 6 receptions for 69 yards).

More than Holmes (73 yards). More than Pittman (76 yards). More than Ginn (7 yards).

I thought he had a pretty good game.

My general thought: Jamaal Charles has more 'it' than eBay.

First of all, doesnt a running back touch the ball more than a wide reciever? Of course he had more yards that Holmes and Pittman, he directly gets the handoff from the QB. Charles cant sneak up on anyone this year like he did last year, and if you expect him to suddenly become a top-5 running back in the nation, you will be very disappointed. I dont think you guys understand how much Young meant to your offense, even when he didnt have the ball, defenses still focused on him. Just having Vince on the field helped your running game drastically. Texas' passing and rushing offense wont be as good as it was last year, there is no doubt in my mind.

How did Peterson do the beginning of the year with Rhett Bomar at the helm? Vince Young meant so much more to UTs offense than Jason White meant to Oklahomas, and there was still a huge drop-off.

Charles is a great running back, but right now he is simply being overhyped.

Charles had one catch he broke for 36 yards...that leaves five catches for 33 yards (6.6 ypc). Not exactly world-breaking...

And if you take away his 80 yard TD vs. OU, he only had 36 yards on 8 carries.

No one, outside of Billy Pittman, had gaudy stats in our game. That's not to say that A.Pittman, Holmes, and Charles each had pretty good games...just not dominant.

Charles was atleast productive with his yardage, converting 6 of our 19 first downs and his big reception set up a FG before halftime.

I've seen enough to know he's special. When he runs, it looks like defenders are moguls, and he is on skis.

"To Give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift"...Pre...

I am pretty content with Pittman and Wells2x in the backfield. Charles is good and will have a good run at UT, but Pittman is proven he can run in the Big Ten and Mo Wells showed signed of flash last year. Having C. Wells never hurts in any backfield

Wow. I just joined right before the Michigan game. I guess the posts just picked up a lot during summer because at this pace we wouldn't come close to 7,000.
the pace of a september game thread in march (during march madness when OSU is very successful) isn't a very good predictor. Look at the fiesta bowl, we filled up 1500 posts in a month or so. I would be very surprised if this thread is not over 10,000 posts by gametime.

Again, no one is saying he's not a solid running back with a huge upside...he's just not the best in the country as was claimed earlier.

Ok, ok, so he's not the "best" running back in the nation right now, just the most talented. So there. That's the claim. Jamaal Charles is the most talented running back in the country.

Anyone want to take a shot at that one?
