Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

So, when an announcer says someone was knocked into next week, do you wince (or cheer, depending on the team) at the hit, or do you complain about how time travel isn't possible?

There is a difference between hyperbole and the blatant missuse of scientific terms in an argument. As for time travel, while there is no evidence suggesting that time travel for humans is possible, I haven't given up on the idea completely. I even have written a screenplay that has time travel in it.

Back on the tackling issue, it is unfortunate that a great form tackle does not get credited as a big hit, while a sloppy tackle at high velocity gets ravs.

I'm picturing a DeLorean with a flux capacitor going 88 miles per hour when it gets hit by lightning.

You are on crack. No team is faster than Ohio State...no one. Ask the 2002 Miami (the then-all-time speed team) team, or the 2005 Notre Dame team. Hell, even on Pittman's 60+ yard pass against us he got ran down from behind by our corner who was over 5 yards behind. Texas has a lot of speed, but they're not the fastest.
so you're following up a homer "we're fastest" comment with one of your own?

OSU will not be outclassed by UT in terms of speed, and vice versa. Acting like nobody could be faster than OSU sounds exactly like the hype from miami fans (a category which included 90% of the media that year).

You didn't seriously bring up ND to prove that OSU is fast, did you?

Agreed. I've been sick of the "you ain't seen nothin' like our speed" BS from SEC fans, Miami, Fla. fans, in general the "southern speed" fans for over 10 years now. I sure as heck don't want to hear crap from Ohio State fans of the same ilk. Frankly, I don't give a crap if our guys run 4.3s or 4.6s, as long as they're coached by JT et al I know they'll be fundamentally sound and have great technique, which alone will equate to around an .800 winning % and a host of big game wins.

For the record, I think LSU is the pure "fastest" team in the country. Xavier Carter certainly backed his trash talking fans up this past weekend as the fastest player in college football.

Well, here's a term you ought to go look up: Context.
This isn't a physics journal, it's a football forum.

without looking at times, i would be willing to bet that any one of USC, Texas, LSU, Georgia, Florida, or OU are every bit as fast as tOSU...now as for who is the "fastest" i don't know, and i would be willing to bet that you really don't either

And that it doesn't really matter that much, when both teams are in the top of the team speed category, the only thing that speed is really going to affect are matchups, and no matter how fast you are, of the teams HL listed, each team will win some of those matchups and each team will lose some...it becomes about blocking, execution, et cetera

There is one other thing that speed affects; though I'm not disagreeing with you, just going in an entirely different direction.

Speed makes the game a whole lot more fun to watch. Seeing OSU & Texas go at it college football style with near NFL speed is truly the most beautiful sight these tired old eyes will ever see...

I mean except for every woman on earth who is at least moderately attractive of course.
