Game Thread Game One: #1 Ohio State 35, Northern Illinois 12 (9/2/06)

G-Force, you love your team and we respect that. Please stop the act, we understand you don't want us to underestimate NIU.

How has NIU's fall camp been going? Are there any standouts on your defense or any changes to the 2-deep on either side of the ball?
Novak said that the 4 standouts in camp have been Wolfe (ovbiously), back up RB Montell Clanton, WR ritt Davis, and TE Brandon Davis. Also said the true freshman John Tranchitella (LB) and Marcus Lewis (WR) may see playing time early.

Sorry for some reason it made me put all that (and this) in bold.

Pitt was in the Big East, Illinois was in your conference and beat you.
Point remains Illinois is not the team Ohio State is. We also lost our starting QB to a DUI the week of that game, probably caused a slight distraction. Nevertheless, we went into Michigan with a backup QB a week later and took down Michigan, not to mention our starting RB also went out for the game in the first half. The same Michigan team that beat Illinois by 25 earlier in the year.

They beat the 2001 team, not this one. And Illinois sucked last year, which is more recent than 2001. We beat Pitt I believe it was 70-14 one year in the 1990's...does that team reflect waht the Pitt BCS team was? You're really starting to reach now.

This charade is getting tired...some OSU fans have been a bit over the top with some comments, but you constantly harping that Illinois in 2001 or Maryland in 2003 somehow gives you "BCS cred" or whatever you want to call it, and somehow is supposed to say something about the 2006 team from either school is getting old. If we have as good a team as people think we do, you will not come close to winning here. If we don't, you will be a lot closer than some people around here think. We are not going to convince you that you will get blown out, and despite all the 5 year old Illinois schedules you want to post, you will not convince us that you are going to win or stay within 3 points. Why not move on to something else?

The fact you beat beat Maryland and hung close with Illinois in 2003 or whenever has nothing to do with the game on 9/9. G-Force is causing this thread to go around in circles. If this were a democracy, I would be torn whether to vote him off the board or not. He is really the only thing keeping this thread going (which in itself is either good or bad). On the other hand, he posts hardly anything relevant to this year's game.

G-Force, please don't respond to some of the idiots that are baiting you into traps. I would encourage you post information about NIU's team this year, practice info, etc. That is what will keep you among the good graces of the people who matter, the mods.
.

Those are my two cents.

The entire Big 10 sucked in 2001. 2001 Illinois was the weakest Big 10 champ I can clearly remember (back to '93 or so) and would finish no better than 3rd-5th in the conference this year. And congratulations, the 2001 NIU team was only 5 points worse than the 2001 Illinois team. Is there anyone still on the roster who played in that game and therefor would give that point any relavence at all?

Dont get me wrong, I love your enthusiasm for your team G-Force, but if you think the 2001 Illinois team compares with the 2006 Buckeyes you need to get out of DeKalb a little more.

Now, if we can discuss the game being played THIS year...even if Wolf runs for 200 yards and 3 TD's who's going to stop the Buckeye offense in order to keep it close? How has the D looked in practice? You mentioned the stand outs were all offensive, is there anyone on D who can step up and make a difference in this game?

Did everyone see T.S on cold pizza, When he was asked the question of if he thinks he will be playing in the N.C game he said we dont think about that at all, all we are thinking about is NIU. There is no way that NIU stands a chance in this game. Sorry G-force.
