I wonder if the shorter than normal last 2 season is more due to cost than anything else. I've noticed they've cut out some supporting characters if they were just going to be background in an episode likely because they don't have to pay them if they aren't in the episode. HBO probably makes the same money if it's 7 episodes or 10, but costs 30 mil less to produce. These last 2 seasons definitely have enough story for 10 episodes each like the others and more than 2 seasons as well if the pace was closer to the previous seasons. Going to be sad when it's all over even with the GoT Universe living on.

Btw those of you counting on awesome spin offs or whatever from HBO, I feel the need to remind you that their parent company is about to be acquired by AT&T. There's probably a better than 75% chance they completely fuck up the acquisition and HBO tanks on originals.

And the episodes are longer. . . and the actors are paid by episode. . .

so, the stupidest fucking plan ever was just for the ice dragon reveal... it really is annoying when you can tell they have an idea (zombie dragon!) and write some really illogical stuff (we'll go north of the wall and steal a zombie from an army and somehow make it back!) in order to make it happen

also, thin ice in a place where it hasn't been above freezing in decades if not centuries?

and they just sat in the middle of the ice for days? weeks? until the dragons arrive?

also, where the fuck did the army of the dead get those massive chains at?

this shit really does take away from my enjoyment of the episodes these days

The only reason I continue to watch is because I know the book will be so much better. I don't even think you could consider anything outside of MAJOR plot points to be spoilers considering how far they've strayed so far with regard to character motivation and details. I feel like watching the show is like finding out what happens in the tOSU TSUN game by watching sportcenter with your eyes closed. A whole lot of booyas and very little substance

I agree. It's a double edged sword, though. I feel like GRRM's attention to detail and realism is why he's going to die before finishing the books.

I just hope winds of winter comes out soonish (is before the end of the year too much to ask?)... I have almost no hope for the final book ever being finished.

Friend of mine has a theory that Martin wont finish anymore books... now that the books are pretty much past the real life "based on a true story part" (based on the war of the roses) he's actually going to have to start writing about new shit instead of just fancifully retelling an old story
