Imo, in thebooks, it's that she saw them dying in the flames and used it to her advantage. But I get why Stannis would consider burning his nephew and his daughter alive. He THINKS she has real powers. In the show, he burns his only daughter and the heir to his would be kingdom because...hey, why not? [Mark May] else going on I guess.

I understand that the show has to cut [Mark May]. I do. I wish they'd have cut the "Pod is a thick dicked dynamo that gets pleasure refunds from whores" storyline in favor of defining major character motivation a bit better. I really think the writers believe they can tell the story better than GRRM, which obviously, I think is fucking ridiculous.

So maybe in burning his daughter and things going all sideways anyways proved he wasn't a king (and the sacrifice was in vain).....which is why mel split?

I don't see a difference between what you described in the books and what happened in the show in regards to him burning Shireen.

So now that everyone is in the dark what are the chances that Jon Snow is actually dead? Not saying anyone isn't being truthful, but this is the first time in the whole run of the show that they can feed fans some bad info to try to throw everyone for a loop for next season or when the book comes out. The thing I don't understand is why anyone would give 2 shits about the wall if Jon is dead.

This is getting to be like Lost where there are so many loose ends that I don't see a way they can do a good job closing it out in 2 seasons.

They will all be closed out because there are going to be two convergence points for the entire plot, in that you'll have the north with the white walkers and kings landing, with everyone else.

they're kind of painting themselves into a corner with Jon Snow's death. that stare down with the leader of the White Walkers was pretty epic. for that to be the only interaction between the two would be such a huge waste. and yet....how do you not kill him without it being some hokey cliff hanger gotcha moment? I'm not giving up like BUCKYLE....I'm just wondering how they pull this off.

It is called A Song of Ice and Fire after all. There are only two noble houses in Westeros that are gifted with magic: the Starks which can warg and know what Winter is Coming means, and the Targaryens who hold power over dragons and fire. Jon Snow, if R+L=J is to be believed, could either rise from the dead via Mel as a human, rise from the dead via the Night's King (a Stark) as a White Walker, or walk out of his pyre like Daenerys did.

I'm pulling for the Jon & White Walker army plus Jaime vs Daenerys & dragons plus Tyrion storyline myself. Nephew vs aunt, with a brother vs brother subplot thrown in.

Now that Daenerys is all uppity, she doesn't show her Royal bush or tits anymore. That makes me sad. Wifey will watch old GoT episodes with me, but if it becomes obvious I'm just watching for Khaleesi pussy or Red Woman bush, she ain't gonna be happy...

And just an FYI, I ain't read no books. Book learnin' is for uppity House of Newark beardmaesters...

I think we can't help but be disappointed by the outcome.
But the show can't be completely brilliant all the time, right?

I think it's just a game of semantics. Yes, Jon Snow is dead- just like Dondarion was dead seven seperate times before a red priest brought him back.

Until the episode where Milesandre brings him back, he is and will continue to be dead.

I think that's the company line. "He's dead. Dead is dead." I haven't seen anyone say "He's not coming back to life."
