GA DB KJ Bolden (Georgia Signee)

What a freaking gut punch.
Pivot to new names on the board. And the Portal will always be an option. And it seems like that will have to be a viable option for defensive recruiting going forward. Getting defensive players from the south is the tallest of tasks. But if you can get a kid who produced at a lower tier program, than you take a flier on him(I.e. Igbinosun, Carter, McAllister, etc)

Regarding the portal; it would seem like at this point Knowles and his defensive staff have been a hat on the table for a ton of kids who’s NIL checks should be bouncing according to popular sentiment.

Why not avoid recruiting and just put a full court tampering press on all of them? It’s not like you have to worry about the NCAA.

Unless of course, all the misses are due to more than just NIL….

With any sport, if the players don't care about winning a championship, the interest in that sport will fade away.
Once they're on the team, of course they're going to try. But if I'm an elite TE, for example, do I want to go for a natty at Ohio State, or to get the NFL potential that Iowa brings? I'm talking about choosing your school. If you have legit NFL aspirations.....not just really hoping it happens, but you have the talent, and coaching could make you a first rounder.....national prominence should probably take a back seat.

It's the same reason we should continue to get #1 WRs out of Texas that we have no business signing otherwise. It's the same message....only in that case the shot at a natty is a bonus. How can we say it makes sense for WRs, but then pretend winning a title should take precedence over coaching and League prep for a Safety?

Oh for sure…. But you have to figure there’s 1.5-2 mil on the table from someone else.

The way I see it is KJ thought 200-500k is worth sacrificing a championship for etc. Not saying that’s wrong either but it’s not like he wasn’t going to make anything at OSU/UGA.

I honestly think many of these kids treat this as a means to get money and go to the NFL. He may not win a NC with FSU, but that program won't hold him back if he has NFL talent.

Honestly, that's where I'm at here. Bolden seemed like a kid that saw past the immediate cash grab. Pretty much no kid is immune to it now it seems, and by no means am I blaming him for taking that deal. But for any semi-purist of college football, it is disheartening to see even if it's the new reality.

We have a great class, but it's throw your hands up in the air mode with NIL right now. I guess you just hope all these schools break that deal and the word gets out like A&M.

And so goes the post-recruitment bitch session. One can only guess at the mindset of an 18 year old kid, who has all sorts of great stuff thrown at him by some great football programs. Overwhelming, I'd expect. Early gratification (NIL), or long-term possibilities. tOSU always seems to lead in the first turn, but coming down the homestretch, either they/we falter, or some other pony surges past us. Someone with greater brain power can tell us if it's because of NIL or pre-NIL, or both. I will say that the NFL will find the talent, no matter what the school, wherever. Free Shoes U is a national player (or has been at one time), so the enticements have to be commiserate with the others. Guess tOSU will simply have to develop what we've got to compete. Will the Buckeyes go forward and compete? Certainly. Go Bucks!

The defensive staff is showing that as a whole they fail on the field and more and more often on the recruiting trail but other than on the field and recruiting, we're totally fine.

Just don't call them out or complain about it because that is sooo much more annoying than getting blasted by tsun or losing to UGA.
