During the senior introductions before yesterday's game, the announcer said that Jamar is scheduled to graduate Winter quarter and I know, well I think I do, that he probably will play European if not NBA (Developmental) after this basketball season so unfortunately he might not get his degree for a while. Jamar get that diploma! You are my man than that diploma will really mean something to you down the road.:osu:

That would mean he needs another 3 quarters...

Thus meaning that he has been here 4 years after spring quarter and still needing 3 quarters...And it isn't like he would of been able to be failing classes and not taking the workload, because he had to do both of those to stay eligible...The only thing would of been would of been an undecided major and taking classes that won't fit towards his major, but I think he has had african american studies his whole time here...

I just want him to get his diploma. This year or next year... enough:(

It's been a while, but when I was in school, I believe the NCAA said:

40% Rule: successfully complete 40% of degree requirements before entering the third year of collegiate enrollment (for example: 48 hours of 120 hour program).
60% Rule: successfully complete 60% of degree requirements before entering the fourth year of collegiate enrollment (for example: 72 hours of 120 hour program).
80% Rule: successfully complete 80% of degree requirements before entering the fifth year of collegiate enrollment (for example: 96 hours of 120 hour program)

So Jamar only had to have 60% of his degree done prior to this year. So having 3 quarters left sounds about right if he took the minimum.

EDIT: It's like the "give" the athletes a 5 year plan.

Columbus -- Friday's the tiebreaker. Ohio State and Michigan State already split their regular-season series, and on Monday they split the final spot on the All-Big Ten first team.
OSU's Jamar Butler was named one of the top five players by conference media, while MSU's Drew Neitzel was the pick of conference coaches. The senior point guards will meet for a third time this season in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament in three days.
"Jamar deserved to make first team All-Big Ten," OSU coach Thad Matta said in a statement. "His hard work over his career, and especially this season, has paid off with all the Ohio State records he has set and now earning a spot on the All-Big Ten team."

Butler scored 41 points and had 11 assists in their head-to-head matchups this year, while Neitzel had 19 points and seven assists. Overall, Butler averaged more points (14.6 to 13.4) and more assists (a league-leading 6.0 to 4.2) but Butler also averaged nearly twice as many turnovers (2.6 to 1.4).

For some reason, Big Ten coaches don't care for Ohio State point guards. For the second year in a row, the Buckeyes' floor leader scored in double figures and led the conference in assists and was voted second-team All-Big Ten by the league's 11 men's basketball coaches.
Last year it was freshman Mike Conley Jr., who had the last laugh as he led Ohio State to the NCAA championship game and was the No. 4 pick in the NBA draft. Yesterday it was senior Jamar Butler, who also laughed when asked if it bothered him that the coaches chose Drew Neitzel of Michigan State over him. The media voted Butler to the first team ahead of Neitzel.

I think he was really slighted by the coaches regardless of the head-to-head figures. He has played more minutes than Neitzel, his assists per games is higher along with his scoring average. I have not looked at their three-point shooting percentage but I think Butler would be right there with Neitzel. Maybe some of Butler's character played over into the voting but it should not. He was a better player than Neitzel this year and that's all that should have counted.

Based solely on statistics Butler should have been first-team hands down.

For the season, Butler averaged 14.6 points, fifth in the Big Ten, and a conference-best 5.97 assists. He also led the league in free-throw percentage (.940) and minutes played (36.58) and ranked third in three-point field goals and assist-to-turnover ratio, ninth in steals and 14th in three-point percentage.

Neitzel averaged 13.4 points, seventh in the Big Ten, and led the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio. He ranked fourth in assists and three-point field goals, 10th in minutes played and 12th in three-point percentage.

Jamar deserved 2nd-team honors in my view. His decision-making this year has not been nearly as good as in his previous two seasons, which justifies the "slight." His relatively high turnover mark is evidence of that decision-making issue.

Frankly, Conley not being first-team last year was not so much a slight as it was B11 coaches failing the IQ test.

Disagree with your first comment because Butler had the ball in his hands much more than Neitzel and factor in also the number of minutes played which takes its wear and tear, physically and mentally.

I agree that Butler should of made first team...But I just think that sometimes when the coaches look and think about these things, they think about the harder guy to defend and gameplan against and really Neitzel is harder to gameplan against, due to how he runs off screens and works so hard to get his shot...

Also coaches might of heard other things about Jamar leaving him off of the first team...I would be curious to see the voting breakdown and how close it was...

You could make an argument for both sides in terms of Neitzel vs. Butler tho as both have done it their whole career, and did so again this year...
