Jamar's game reminds me a LOT of Derek Fisher- good game manager who can score and plays good defense. He is smaller than Fisher, but quicker and probably a little better jump shooter. Jamar probably gives you a little better ball-handling and would actually run the point more than Fisher, but otherwise their games seem incredibly similar to me, and I really wouldn't be suprised to see Jamar starting for a team with a dominant scorer (Lakers, Cavs, Heat, Nuggets type teams) in a couple of years.

Columbus -- He's the point guard, the leading scorer, the only senior in the starting lineup and the player Ohio State men's basketball can't live without. If the Buckeyes were playing man-to-man defense, Jamar Butler also would be chasing the opponent's best guard around the court for nearly 40 minutes per game, and by March, he would have been taking in-game naps on the bench.
"I think I would be dead already," Butler said this week. "Right now."
So the zone implemented by Ohio State coach Thad Matta this season has served as an oxygen tank for arguably the Big Ten's most valuable player. With aggressive wing players able to challenge shots and no dominant big man able to close down the middle on his own, the zone fits Ohio State's other personnel. With tonight's game at Iowa signaling the halfway point of the Big Ten season, it's also keeping that personnel fresher.

I think Jamar is starting to wear down a bit...I was reading the article in today's Dispatch and he definitely sounds frustrated which he should. As the leader and being a senior plays a big factor. I don't think he is use to losing to teams that former teams he was on have beat either in blow outs or strong, sound wins on the road. The reality is this team is to up and down which should be expected. Our remaining schedule is looking brutal and we have to step it up if we want to make the dance.:!

Butler goes off

No, Jamar Butler did not go off on offense tonight. That was obvious if you were able to watch the Buckeyes? 53-48 loss at Iowa on the Big Ten Network.
Butler was off, missing 10 of 14 shots, and no one proved capable of taking up his slack. Butler?s 11 points led the Buckeyes.
Where he did go off was outside Ohio State?s locker room after the game, essentially laying the blame for the loss on unnamed teammates whom he said were not ready to play.
I used his best quotes in Sunday?s story in the newspaper, so be sure to read that. But here are a few really good leftovers that didn?t make the story:
-- On the Buckeyes? mindset going into the game:
?We come in here, just because we beat them by 30 or whatever we did at home (79-48 on Jan.9), we think we?re just going to roll over a team. It?s not going to be like that. They?re playing on their home floor, they?re going to try to protect their home, and they did.?
-- On a desperation layup he missed, after the play had broken down, with two seconds on the shot clock, 40 seconds left in the game and Ohio State trailing 49-46:
?The play we set up (during a timeout) we didn?t execute and that busted the whole play. I had to try to get to the rim and put it up there. I was surprised when I put it up and all four of my (teammates) were standing out at the three-point line and nobody crashed the boards. I mean, two seconds on the shot clock, you?ve got to go get it. That?s the one thing you can do. I have no clue what they were doing.?
-- On how he felt the same way after a loss at Purdue on Jan.12, but that was three weeks ago:
?I never thought this would happen. I thought we were taking steps in the right direction. But every time we take a step forward we take two back. We can?t do that.?
-- On how much the young team has matured 22 games into the season:
?Last year?s team, this never would have happened, I can tell you that. Guys were mentally ready to go night in and night out. I guess it was just more important to us last year.?

Butler made two mistakes....speaking to the media and waiting this long to finally say something.....regardless of how he let is frustration be known....his points are still valid......do not loose sight of that.

CB40.....I do not agree with your statement.......was Troy Smith a bad leader? Remember his comments to the media about his lack of playing time at quarterback?........Butler let his frustration get the best of him.....it happens to everyone.

Why does he make it like he and then the rest of the team...They need to be whole not sepearte...He should say WE need to fix this and that...If he has big games in UT and Iowa games we are not even having this conversation because we are probably ranked and still looking good in the big ten...He layed eggs in the biggest games, so he needs to be accountable as well...It pisses me off when someone makes statements that puts them above the team...I said earlier in the season when he made his statements before the UT game about needing someone to step up that this team would go as far as Jamar molded them into...He needed to bring the guys along, not just expect them to come along...

No Troy was a great leader he had control of the huddle, he made his statement when he was still young...Butler is a senior he needs to be the one bringing the team with him not separating it...I understand the frustration, but maybe he should take a look in the mirror and realize where he was at his freshmen season...

You don't see Twig and Hutner making commments like this even tho they have been playing well...

I have seen lots of Jamar personally and on the court, and that is what I am basing these remarks on...

Personally, I think Jamar thinks he is being a leader by making these comments. He thinks 'this' is senior leadership. I don't agree, but myabe he thinks these comments will fire the squad up.

I can't help but think Jamar wishes he had taken a shot at the draft last year. He probably thinks he would have been better suited being a second round pick developing his craft rather than molding freshmen into Big 10 players...JMO

I agree, but these are types of things that need to be done behind closed doors, and also he needs to add WE in there...He is separating himself from the team...

He would not of been drafted last year and he has improved his stock this year by coming back...I do believe that he can be second round pick this year, but look at all mock drafts and he isn't in them...

I doubt you really mean that. I do semi-agree with you though. Throwing your team under the bus in front of the media can cause more harm than good but who knows, maybe it'll wake them up and they'll respond to the challenge. Something has to change, that's for sure.

It might be harsh...But one time was enough...Now for a second time...They stepped up the next game why he didn't after his first go around with the media and him needing help...

The thing that really gets me and irks me is look at his numbers when he was a frosh...They weren't spectacular, yeah it sucks that we are losing, but get this team together, and prepare for a tourney run...

Jamar's high school team never made it out of the sectional tournament in high school, and he was the best player in Ohio for his senior year and probably 2 of the others was teh second best behind LBJ...Why is this important you might ask...Because I have seen him try and take teams where he is the leader and hasn't been able to do it...He said in his interview the other day for senior profile on the weekly show he was trying to step into the leader role, but that just doesn't suit him and he is going about it all wrong...

I mean you never ever throw your team under the bus...Never, never never...
