G Jamar Butler (Official Thread)

IHe needs to come off the screens better with the ball and find guys like Hunter and KK as they roll to the hole, he needs to break down the defense and get guys like Diebler, Turner, Lighty open looks from the perimeter...

As I saw it last night that was one of the problems know but it was rolling to the basket when he came off of a screen at the top of the circle and the other guys were not making themselves available.

yeah he was not attacking towards the rim off the screen and forcing the big guy to stay with him...Watch LBJ run the pick n pop with Z and that is what I would love to see with Jamar and either KK or Hunter...No reason for them to drift behind the 3 pt line, an 18 footer allows the percentages to go up in terms of making the shot...

Pretty fair assessment of Jamar's abilities. I would love for Jamar to be a second round pick for the Pistons. He's not as big as Billups, and will probably never be able to post up like him, but they have similar styles otherwise, and think Jamar could learn alot about being an NBA point guard from Billups.

Scroll down for a good breakdown of Jamar's game, although I must say I personally disagree with their assessment of his defensive abilities.
Nice find and I agree with your assessment that the writer does not give Butler enough credit for his defense. He can be a very tough defender in man-to-man defense. On offense however, I haven't seen many pick and pops this year. Very nice write-up.

the past three years butler has been the shut down guard. does he get beat by mid and lower lever b10 guards yes, but he still is the teams shut down guard...

40s lovefest to follow...

No reason for a lovefest...I couldn't of put it any better myself...

I do know that NBA scouts like Butler in terms of his size...

Also there have been plenty of NBA scouts at our games, not sure how much they are looking at Butler, but they have been there quite a bit...

Butler's serving it up again at Ohio State

The Buckeye has regained his point guard job and become a key contributor to his very young team.

When Mike Conley Jr. stepped onto the Ohio State campus last season, Jamar Butler knew his tenure as the team's starting point guard had ended. Butler moved to the wing and played a key role in the Buckeyes' Final Four run, but he longed to return to the position he had played since he was youngster in Lima, Ohio.
When Conley opted for the NBA draft last spring, Butler got his wish. He's back as OSU's starting point guard, a switch that has helped him become one of the top perimeter players in the country and keep the Buckeyes winning despite the loss of four key players from last season.
OSU, with five freshmen, is 13-6 overall and 4-2 in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes have lost three of their past four but hope to bounce back against the Gophers tonight at Value City Arena in Columbus.
Amid all the roster shuffling, Butler, a senior, has emerged as a veteran leader.

Retaliation always gets caught

Jamar Butler had a quick ?no comment? when a reporter asked after the win over Minnesota why Butler was called for a technical foul with 8:57 left Saturday night.
It came after Gophers coach Tubby Smith had called time out to stem an Ohio State run that had stretched the Buckeyes? lead from three to 12 points. As the players headed to their respective benches, something happened between Butler and a Minnesota player.
I didn?t see it first-hand. I had my head buried in my laptop at the time since I was on deadline and had to file my initial story as soon as the game ended.
Fortunately, I have Big Ten Network and, as I do most of the time, I taped the game. I watched the tape today, went back and forth through the altercation several times, and here?s what I saw:

It wasn't much of a push and probably a make up call. But either way I like that Butler gave him the push - as our point guard and senior leader I think it is a good example to the youngsters this year that we won't be pushed around.

Just think of how much better KK would be if he didn't get pushed around in the paint so much.
