G/F Evan "The Villain" Turner (2010 Naismith Winner)

Dude needs to go to the NBA. Get paid. Take care of your family for life. Go on.

I tend to agree with this. If you're a high lottery pick, go get your money.

That said, I also happen to think if it were me, I'd rather make sure when I got to the league I wind up getting paid for 15 years of service and not just 3.

Evan's a great player, but I think he still has room to grow with his vision & decision making, and could also benefit with another year of strength training in the S&G. Players don't usually get the opportunity to refine their games and learn on the job in the NBA. Either you fit neatly into the game plan like a cog in the machine, or your ride the pine.

Evan will get his payday either way, but I think he'd stand a better chance to make more money longterm over his career with one more year of seasoning in college. I wouldn't begrudge him declaring though. He broke his back for the S&G, so I think that certainly weighs heavily on his decision.

If there's one kid that doesn't seem to be in it for the money, it's ET. So it'll be an interesting couple of weeks. Did he or didn't he go to class today?

To me Evan can't get any better in college basketball he has the chance to go no 2 thru 4. His decision making will be better in the nba because he isn't goin to play the pg position the whole game.

He will be paid a very long time if he leaves this year or next

Nobody is making any decisions for him, we're just assuming that he's gone. Pretty safe assumption.

If you disagree, fine.. but I'd be shocked if he came back. No matter what he's saying right now. Nobody is going to be upset if he returns. But I'd put money on him leaving..

What I'm saying is that the people saying he "NEEDS" to go are wrong. He "NEEDS" to do whatever he wants to do, not listen to message board posters telling him to go to the NBA. No one on here knows what he truly values in life. If he thinks it's best for him to stay, then that's what he "NEEDS" to do.

That's all. I also wouldn't agree with people saying that he needs to stay.

With as hard as Evan Turner works, he can get a lot better here at Ohio State. 3 point shooting, ball handling, decision making. If he can cut his turnovers to like 2 a game instead of 4.4, and start shooting the 3 consistently then he's the number one pick next year anyways. If he can show that he can play point in the league and show more range then he's the number 1 pick. He can do it all. I just don't see Evan dropping in value. He's too good and works too hard to lose value by coming back. I think he'd be right up where he is right now, maybe at that number 1 spot. Except he might also have a National Championship in his pocket and the chance to enjoy the college life for one more year.

Being a little older, speaking from personal experience and coming from a very unhappy place with a very healthy amount of income, and a very happy place with much less income, I say...do whatever makes you happy.

To some people, life experiences far outweigh any amount of money. Am I saying don't get paid? NO WAY. What I am saying though is that, even with the freak vertebrae injury this year...the likelihood is that the money'll be there next year and if winning an NCAA Championship is one of his life goals, then come on back. He's not going to get worse at basketball - playing another year here. I'll tell you that much. I guarantee you Jimmy T wouldn't trade his 2002 Championship for any dollar value...because I think that's the kind of guy he is, and he gets it. Maybe Evan is similar...who knows.

IMO, He made himself a lot more money by staying for his junior year. I don't think that he can do anything but hurt his stock by staying for a senior season.

Well, he could go #1...chances are he would. This year he's #2. Obviously not a huge reason to come back, but he doesn't hurt his stock at all next year IMO. And I don't see any John Walls out there in next years class. And Evan's game is built on getting to the rack....so he doesn't have to worry about going cold and hurting his stock.

I don't know, its worked out well for Tim Duncan. Evan loves college bball, loves tOSU, has a girlfriend on campus, and is probably reluctant to give up college life for a 24-7 job. The NBA isn't easy. Mandatory trips to the facility, treatment, 5-6am workouts, summer league basketball, community programs and off-court responsibilties representing your team for those damn "NBA Cares" commercials. I'd be interested to see if Greg, Mike, Kosta, Byron, or Daquan have reached out at all. I'd be wiling to bet several of those guys....maybe even more than 50% of them, wish they had stuck around. If Evan comes back, some sort of tradition needs to be created for him..maybe a tree in the Buckeye Grove or something. He'd certainly deserve it...

A ball-handling Small Forward who can play good defense will be in the NBA for a decade at least.

It's his time. I do believe he will see that once the sting from last night's game diminishes. Ohio State will survive without him.

He did make himself more money. I was saying that if we wanted him to play for someone decent then he should've left last year. :p

I think Turner could be subject to the Matt Leinart treatment if he comes back. The versatility that the NBA scouts praise him for could be scrutinized after another 30+ games (not quick enough/good enough ball-handler to play 1, not good enough shooter to play 2, dominates the ball, etc.) He should strike while the iron's hot IMO.

Four Things I Think ... about the end of Ohio State's season: Doug Lesmerises
By Doug Lesmerises, The Plain Dealer
March 26, 2010, 10:39PM

"He hates losing," his teammate and roommate, Jon Diebler, said after the loss. "His goal was to get to the Final Four. He didn't reach his goal. I've lived with him for a year, and I know how he is, and he loves college, he absolutely loves The Ohio State University, and he loves the guys on the team. Obviously, he has something ahead of him that was his dream, to play in the NBA. But I think there is a slight chance, because he's such a competitor and he has a bad taste in his mouth like everyone else."
While I would like him to stay I don't think he will be back but it will not be because he does not love his teammates and enjoys the college experience.
