FIFY. Younger fans (including myself) don't know how dominant Jerry Lucas was. The guy average at least 21 points and 16 rebounds a game in each of his 3 years at Ohio State. Heck, he was even Sports Illustrated's 'Sportsman of the Year' in 1961... as a college player! There will never be another as dominant as he was in the scarlet and gray.

Can't say I blame them, this team is national championship caliber if he were to return. The team has the opportunity to be legendary in terms of great teams ever at Ohio State, chances like that don't come around too often and I'm sure the coaches realize that.

As good as our recruiting class coming in is, we'll have major trouble next year without an experienced PG. No offense to Craft or Sibert, but neither are John Wall. It's kind of scary to think about....

Buford nor Diebler can play the 1, and I'd consider Lighty but he already takes on a huge load and as good as his handle is, I can;t see an offense running through him. True freshman competition between Sibert and Craft?? Noopy left a major hole...

sibert was never recruited to be a point guard. that is no more his position than it is sullinger's.

also, i've read at least a couple times that craft and lenzelle smith aren't a john wall or mike conley. of course they are not. those players are extremely rare. fortunately, with lighty, buford, diebler, thomas, sullinger, and perhaps sibert, it will not be incumbent upon craft and smith to be great creators and scorers. we just need a composed point who plays solid on-the-ball defense.

this is a better discussion to have outside of turner's thread anyway.

I guess I am not concerned as everyone else about the PG position. I know that Ohio State probably can't replace a guy like Turner as their PG but I am sure that Matta has something up his sleeve:) He doesn't paid all that money for nothing:biggrin2:

Some people need to read Jerry Lucas's thread in the Alumni forum that doesn't really tell you how good he really was while at Ohio State.

What is the date that he has to announce if he is going pro or not? Can't we just lock the thread until then? The reasons of why people think he should stay or go have been beaten to death and it's only been a few days since he last played.

It is not so much the date that guys have to declare for Turner it is the date when he can still drop classes without any punishment or it will hurt our APR. I think that is in the second week of April.

I believe it is April 12, with the official deadline being April 24 or 25.

This is a bit of hyperbole, but if Turner comes back for next season, and Sullinger can do just a little of what's expected (provide an inside presence on offense, and rebound the basketball), we are looking at a potentially dominant team.

I'm not sure what the non-conference schedule will look like, but I would assume there will be a game at Duke for the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, probably one other tough/semi-tough home game in the non-conference, and of course tough conference games with Purdue and MSU. We're talking about a team that, barring injuries, has a legitimate chance to go undefeated.

Again - hyperbole, but something I'm sure is being considered by a guy who has made it known he wants to leave a legacy at Ohio State.

Just throwing this out for discussion:

I don't know here. Are the coaches being selfish and/or fair to Turner? Yeah, I know Kosta Koufos, Daequan Cook, and BJ Mullens really weren't ready for the NBA but they went early anyway (soley for the money). This was proven per the time they spent or are spending in the NBA Development League. However, anyone else out there think Evan is actually ready (at this point in his career) for the NBA?

I was only speaking in terms of if the coaches were to convince Turner to come back. Obviously none of what I said is true without him.
