Fraternity Members?(Merged)

Out of morbid curiosity, any other Fraternity men out there? If so which fraternity and what campus are you at/did you graduate from?

I'm currently enrolled at tOSU and am a member of the Omicron Deuteron chapter of Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) established at tOSU in 1878. Any other Phi Gams out there?

We actually have some Buckeye Football history. Some of our more famous football players include Chick Harley and [size=-1]Tom Matte and Phi Gams were actually instrumental in changing Ohio State's colors from orange and black to Scarlet and Gray.

I read a story where Tom Matte was given a choice...live in the Frat house or in Woody's house. He was apparently raising hell in his own apartment and needed supervision. Of course he took the Frat house...

I never got into that rent-a-friend thing.
*sarcasm font* That's cool, I guess it's easier to accept false stereotypes than to achieve lifelong brotherhood. */sarcasm font*

Seriously though, the buy-your-friends thing is old and trite. I mean, let's be honest. I'm a pretty popular guy, i'm poor and I'm in college. If a fraternity were simply 'renting friends', I'd laugh my ass off and stick with the many "free" friends that I already had. The true Fraternities (not the 'frats') go far beyond simple friendship. I can see where it's easy to sit on the outside and make broadsweeping generalizations, as I was once 'that guy' and was avidly anti-greek. Then I educated myself, and got involved with a group that fit what I was looking for, and whom did not fall within those stereotypes.

Does that look like a man who buys his friends? :)

I'm not sure why this tends to turn into smack talk... there have been threads on this topic, they all turn into jokes against both sides...

The boxing match is about to begin... let me go get some popcorn for this one... :wink2:

Oh, I've only been reading around here for around a year, have just recently started posting and this is my first trip to the open discussion forum, so sorry for any reposts.

At any rate, I'd hope people have enough courtesy to keep to the true intent of the question, and not have this turn into a 'Zwick vs. Smith' -esque debate.

I don't really care to argue the system, I'm merely curious to see what fraternities are represented here.

I realize you have an innate need to fit in (hence, making fun of BN), but thread highjacking is the norm HERE.
If 1000 people do something foolish, it's still foolish. Truth is never dependent upon the consensus of opinion. Oh, and I don't have the innate need to fit in, just to be loved :tongue2:

I was in a frat at OSU. I was not very active in it. I never lived in the house, and did not participate in any of the ritual type stuff. I joined the frat for one reason and one reason alone. Pussy. There are a lot of stereotypes about frat boys etc. I can only say for sure that one is true. Getting chicks at a frat party is like shooting fish in a barrel. They show up in huge groups, drink tons of free beer, and most of them are looking for the same thing you are. If I was ever in a rut, or needed some action all you had to do was show up at the house on a Friday, or Saturday night. You did not even have to go to your own house, just whoever was throwing a big party. The best thing about it was none of these chicks ever expected you to ever call them, or talk to them again if you did not want to.

Ahh the good old days.

fraternities that don't haze make me laugh
I can agree to this one, fraternities are now starting to lean more and more towards not doing any actual hazing, I actually began to see some of this movement on our campus before I graduated. Hazing is a natural part of it and actually weeded out the guys who probably would have given you the most trouble anyhow. Besides it wasn't like any of it was so bad that it was intolerable. My pledge class started at 25 members (smaller school) and when it was all said and done there were 18 of us left. But I had fun with it, it's best described as the most fun you never want to have again. Only minor injuries and some wounded pride along the way :p .

Also, I lived in the house, which was a total shithole, for two years, and I wouldn't have traded that college experience for anything.
