The following is an exerpt from an actual conversation circa 1994:
Random Frat Bro: Dude you should really join our frat.
Me: Why?
RFB: Well because then you can come to all of our parties.
Me: Aren't we at one of your parties right now?
RFB: Yeah why?
Me: Don't you invite me to all of your parties?
RFB: Well yeah...
Me: Wouldn't I have to pay to join the frat?
RFB: Sure to help cover expenses.
Me: I fail to see how that would benefit me....paying to come to parties you beg me to come to in the first place.
RFB: Well you would be part of a brotherhood for the rest of your life.
Me: You do realize I just got off active duty from the United States Marine Corps right?
RFB: Uh...

I couldn't care less what you fucks think about my affiliation. I'm glad I did it, and I certainly wasn't buying friends. It was cheaper to be in a frat at ONU than it was to live elsewhere.

They tried to say that at OSU but it didn't work. It was MUCH cheaper to live in an apartment than a frat.

probably because people who are in frats or sororities refer to themselves as greek. i don't think you had to change your name to mattenopolis when you joined.gbearbuck said:

I never joined a frat, I never felt the need to as I was involved in quite a few other things on campus.
The funniest thing I ever heard came from my freshman year roomate who decided to join a frat because he felt as if the guys on the floor had become to much of a clique. I just looked at him and was like what the hell do you think a frat is?

They wouldn't let anyone but seniors live off campus at THE Ohio Northern University.
I went there until the end of my sophomore year. Another thought...
I think it's more accepted at smaller campus universities than it is at schools like tOSU.
