Fraternity Members?(Merged)

What stereotypes are you referring to? That they are cliques? That they sustain the good-old boy networks? That they do nothing but party and get drunk? That they are a major source of campus-area vandalism? That rape often occurs within the system? That they endanger people's lives through the hazing processes? That racism is still a problem within many of them?.

If I were from the south, I wouldn't stand for that sort of talk.:wink2:

Sounds like a reasonable law to me. There aren't too many differences between most sororities and brothels.

Wow!
That they are cliques? - any group of friends is a clique

That they sustain the good-old boy networks? - I will never understand why this is a bad thing. The fact of the matter is that unless you are an absolute dynamo in chosen profession, then you probably got your job because of someone you know

That they do nothing but party and get drunk? - this is a university wide problem not just greek systems. I would be insane to say that fraternities didn't have parties, but to say its just the greek system is equally as insane

That they are a major source of campus-area vandalism? - I don't even know where to start on this one as I have never even heard of this problem. the worst i can think of is letters on a bathroom stall. Guess its better than a big'ole penis in your face.

That rape often occurs within the system? - This is much the same as the drinking issue. Unfortunately rape is a dark part of our society and is going to happen everywhere. To say that it is more or less prevolent in the greek system seems wrong.

That they endanger people's lives through the hazing processes? - Hazing can be an issue and should be adressed, but done within some guidelines it brings pledge classes together and helps to teach accountability

That racism is still a problem within many of them? - Once again, this is not a problem just in the greek system

Sounds like a reasonable law to me. There aren't too many differences between most sororities and brothels - I wish

ps. it is a well known fact that i cannot spell. I am sorry in advance

hit the nail on the head :roll1: ... those must be from the same folks that stereotype non-greeks as nonsocial (untrue), unable to network (untrue), do nothing but party and get drunk (probably as true as any other college student... although the non-greeks do get labeled as less partiers/social), not willing to do community service in and around campus (the greeks seem to be the ones cleaning the vandalism), not as smart (the average gpa of greeks was substantially higher than the average student at OU), etc., etc...:tongue2:

The sample size is way too diverse to make the types of conclusions you assert... Those issues are college problems (except hazing... that is a problem the greek community has and needs to continue to clean up).

Well thats ridiculous. In my experience fraternity guys(at least at texas) would be the first to come and shake your hand and thank you for your serivce. Maybe I just see things how I want to see them.

I will also agree that Fraternities seem to be more of a southern thing.

For the record I'm not implying that there was intentional disrespect displayed towards the millitary in general or the 'Corps specifically...just a tendency to try and place both organizations on the same level...and I have issues with that as I feel it's passive disrespect born of ignorance.

I can tolerate ignorance far more than I can malevolence.

If I had major issues with the greeks I wouldn't have drank all that free beer they provided me with.

Is it time to point out the difference between Northern sorority girls and Southern sorority girls?

A Northern sorority girl says: "You can."

A Southern sorority girl says "Y'all can."

Hell, if we're taking cheap (pun intended! ) shots at sorority chicks:

What's the difference between a bunch of sorority chicks jogging around campus and a group of wily pygmies? The pygmies are a cunning bunch of runts.

What's the difference between a sorority and a circus? A circus is a cunning array of stunts.
