Former DC Kerry Coombs (Former Cincy Bearcats Interim Head Coach)

Associate head coach Kerry Coombs is leaving the University of Cincinnati football program after five years to become the defensive backs coach at Ohio State under Urban Meyer.

Coombs, who spent 16 years as the head coach at Colerain High School before entering college coaching as an assistant to Brian Kelly, told UC coach Butch Jones about his decision on Wednesday.

"We sat in my office for hours," Jones said.

What Kerry brings to Ohio State in recruiting with his contacts and relationships all over SWO and NKY is invaulable. I can almost see Hoke wetting himself over the thought of having to outwork Meyer AND Coombs for a Cincy area player.

none story - as from what I hear he can no longer deliver on the recruits and he is a horrible DB coach; lets all hope OSU hires him

He no longer is permitted onto GCL schools such as St. X, he got a stellar recruit in his son at UC who St. X QB pick apart when needing to complete a pass...the man is a joke - let OSU have him all it will dois make UC better

The juggalos make me laugh.

That second one makes me laugh considering no BCS schools were going to take Danny Milligan from St X and Coombs got him to UC and the kid contributed this year. I think Specht, Ramsey and Rodenberg and Grippa will still let him in the door.

Especially now en route to their players having much better odds of playing on Sundays.

I'm sorry to see him go, but you typically can't expect good assistant coaches to stay assistant coaches forever. Either they get a shot at a head coaching position somewhere, or as an assistant with a bigger program that boosts their resume. I'd rather see him go to OSU than to Notre Dame, which he probably could have done when Kelly left.

A lot of Bearcat fans delude themselves into thinking this is about getting a recruiting advantage over UC. This is about beating Michigan and Southern schools that pluck recruits out of Cincinnati (and also improving our Kentucky/Indiana connections).

Coombs is a heck of a coach. Love the hire, didn't see it coming but he'll be great at picking top greater cincy talent like was already stated. I remember watching his dominant teams at colerain, and seeing him get a number of good players around cincy who would've went out of state and he kept them home.

Can't wait to see what coombs can do with an upgrade in athletic talent at osu. If he could get the dbs at UC to lead the nation I can only imagine how dangerous and aggressive he can make Howard, roby, grant, Barnett and bryant, along with our backups. We have the talent, they just need to be coached up
