spent the 4th on the water with my dad.
been a couple years since it was just him and me out in a boat.

once again, if the law allowed for slightly smaller trout, we would have easily limited out. but still came home with a pretty good haul.
and was able to give my mom a couple bags of her absolute favorite fish (speckled trout).

Are those non-trout fish the saltwater catfish with venom so that if you get stuck by a barb it feels like being electrocuted?

nah, these are commonly called gaffetops. they have long extensions coming from their fins that aren’t sharp. these are really good eating fish. a very clean white meat.

you’re probably thinking of hardheads.
those bastards on the other hand have sharp barbs on ends of their fins and are covered in slime that’s begging to produce infections.
these fuckers are good for absolutely nothing. except maybe to beat in the head with a bat.

Well the fishing has started on the Maumee river. Guys have been fishing for a couple weeks now and that's way early. I even went out for an hour the other day but didn't even feel one. It's still too early for the young jack's to come up river and that's what I like to fish four.
I also wanted to test my back and I had some pain the next day. But it's worth it.

I went down to the Maumee today to see how much the water has dropped since the rains of last week. It's still up to the "Holy Shit" level.
That river is busting! I bet it's running close to 26 knots.

Went to sidecut yesterday, saw lot and lots of fishing screwing and making babies. Not biting lol. I did snag one and had to throw him back.

The jacks will be running really soon and then it's katy bar the door.
