Fishing (Official Thread)

Those are walleye. (Cept the little yellow striped guy far right is a yellow perch)

They aren't known for their fighting prowess. Occasionally the girls will throw down with you in the end, usually as you get them in the light at the surface or they see you try to net them, but they aint no small mouth.

Anyway sizewise, this is one of the girls on the right 3-5 in, not sure which one

Super tasty. Cleaning is a take the fillet off each side operation with some pin bones in the midline.

Deep fry, bake with panko, I'm going to do some in butter on cast iron and cajun later... Will post pics

Fun side note...

Was sorta of a slow day at first... Wont bore you with our old school fishing details... But wasn't going great so we switched to trolling with this as my weapon...

So that is a custom painted bandit by my dude dj... Who i went to kindergarten to 3rd grade with and HS. Straight out of Ashland. Dude had a tougher than usual upbringing and is a good dude.

Had to postpone our annual Canada trip from June to late August because of the border closing. The Walleye will be deeper then so I may have to order some of dj's lures. Plus, well, a reason to order new lures.

These 3.5 inch swimbaits are a great multi species bait. I've caught walleye and bass on these (on a 3/8 jighead).

Thanks. I've got quite a few sizes/colors of jigheads and swimbaits that can work well (along with hard baits and spoons). I actually use a plastic similar to that on crawler harnesses when I usually go in June when the walleye are shallower. I was just thinking those deep divers might be a mandatory addition to my arsenal (just in case none of my other similar deep divers work ).

What I like about those Bandits is that someone finally painted a bait worth using. Nine times out of ten painters start with the same Chinese blanks that everyone else is using. The Bandit 300 is one Hell of a great bait. The walleye deep divers are no doubt worth owning.

Reef runners are awesome deep divers too, I don't think many people custom paint them because they come in a bazillion scheme already. But for whatever reason the metallic baits were the right ones... And well, those are the metallic ones I buy

What kind of setup do you use to troll deep diving plugs? I've never fished that way before?

Well, i mean.... Last time we were just dragging them on regular medium rods because we were in about 20-25 feet of water and we were pinging fish in about 10 feet off the bottom... So, no high tech geniusing needed. If is not our preferred method, but there just wasn't enough wind to get our cast and drift routine going without it being just a shit load of work.

We dont set up for deep trolling much, we don't use planers, downriggers or any of that shit. Most we do is set up 4 trolling rods strait from trident rod holders.... Or have two on the outside and hold two in the middle... Then its a question of trolling weights (there are estimated charts for this stuff) and once in awhile dipsey divers. But for us to troll slowly enough its almost an into the breeze kind of run since we don't have a trolling motor so we don't get precise with speed. (Its literally take 7.4 mercruiser out of neutral and try to go slow)

If its breezy, we just use the wind and weapon rigs and cover water that way. But we had 5 fish in a couple hours, so we decided to see what else might work.

Loved seeing that Perch in your mess. I haven’t had the pleasure of fishing for Perch in Lake Erie in many a year. There’s some good Perch fishing on Lake Michigan near us and we just got a boat late last year so I’m going to have to give it a shot.
