Game Thread FIESTA BOWL: tOSU 21, Texas 24 (01-05-09)

Snappy will probably get his wish...if Texas gets the pick of jerseys, you can assume they'll choose their home orange jerseys. Maybe we can pull what USC-UCLA did and both wear home jerseys...how cool would that be with burnt orange jerseys on one side and scarlet jerseys on the other?
Its got to rank among the top stupidest rules in all of college football. The tradition of colored vs. white jerseys was born out of necessity in the days when black and white TVs were the norm. In that case, colors such as red and orange would seem the same. Now we have color TVs, and different colors WILL look vastly different. This is an obsolete rule that needs to go. I would LOVE to see both teams wear their respective colors. That would be AWESOME.

Burnt Orange and Scarlet? That's kind of like wearing plaid pants, striped shirt and a hand-painted Hootchie Kootchie Girl tie. I'm naseous at the mere thought.

The whites wouldn't be so bad if they'd get some gray or silver into the pants. Right now it looks like someone ordered the unis in two shades of white. Yuck.

Not sure where you've been for the past three years and the thousands of posts in texas game threads, but they love their road whites.

I can't think of many worse combinations.

Scarlet and Baby Blue are very different. Scarlet and Burnt Orange are as close as it gets outside of Scarlet vs Crimson.

Only if the orange and scarlet were on the same players. Cardinal and Powder Blue together would be just as hideous a uniform combination, but tell that the USC-UCLA game with each wearing their colored jerseys didn't look cool as shit.

I am with you on this - Scarlet and Burnt Orange would be hideous to see together and also a little too close to each other. Last thing either team needs is to confuse an opposing player for a friendly in the heat of the moment. Plus - who wants to mimic USC/UCLA in any way? Lame.

Cardinal Red provides a nice contrast to a lighter powder blue.

Burnt Orange does not look good next to Scarlet.

Not sure if your were aware of the fact that Iowa was the home team and Texas the visiting (road) team for that game, despite Iowa being ranked lower. Well, noting your history of fucking arguing just to argue, without checking facts first, it's not really shocking. :roll1:

Iowa chose their home black jerseys, and Texas wore their road whites not because they wanted to but because they had to. This link shows info from the 2006 game, and an excerpt is below:

The 2006 Alamo Bowl will again match two of the nation's top conferences as the Big 12 and Big Ten collide in the Alamo City. This year Iowa will be the Home Team with seating located on the East side (press box side) and North end zone. Texas will be the Away Team with seating located on the West side and South end zone.

Agreed... I also agree with what everyone is saying about this layoff actually benefiting Ohio State this season. The last couple, it may have hurt them, but this season Terrelle Pryor has a chance to mature, get more acquainted with the passing part of the play book. I'm excited to see how this offense looks in the Fiesta Bowl.

The differential lay-off between OSU and UT isn't as much as previous years because UT did not play in their conference championship game. I think Pryor will benifit greatly from the extended practice and film study. Hopefully UT will underestimate his ability and leave a lot of one-on-one coverage. I think the coverage will be better than Michigan so the passes will be have to be more accurate. I bet Pryor is working on the adjustments receivers make vs different looks. There were a couple of long passes in The Game that could have been made easily with a little more understanding between the receiver and QB.

UT's (and Big 12 in general) defense isn't as bad as the statistics. The style of game uses very little clock. I am sure if their defensive statistics were ranked yards/play vs yards/game they would rank much much higher. UT is a good solid team.

It takes half a braincell to know red and orange look like crap together, Dryden. Mili needed visual proof.

Mili, are you claiming Texas doesn't love their road whites? They are very popular with casual fans as well in uniform polls.

Evidentally a half brain cell was go enough to look up--and not assume--the fact that Iowa, and not Texas, was the home team for the 2006 Alamo Bowl...thanks for proving that assuming requires no brain cells at all.
