Game Thread FIESTA BOWL: tOSU 21, Texas 24 (01-05-09)

You heard about how great the Big 12 was all year. You didn't hear anything about McCoy or Texas until October 11th...and probably more accurately the 18th. When we lost for Tech we were forgotten until one week when we were getting the sympathy cards. Outside of the three weeks between OU and Tech and the week of the tie breaker there really wasn't much Texas talk going on. Just Big 12 talk.
1. Easy on the loco weed. We heard all about the Big 12, especially the Big 12 QB lineup, from day one of this season and I don't know how much more hype you could get than that for the OK - Texas dust up, followed by the hype of McCoy versus Harrell, followed by the hype for Okie - TTech and UT vs Okie State. And I'm talking about Midwest media.

All of it justified mind you, but it ain't like the 'horns or McCoy lacked for attention at any point in this season. (If it makes you feel any better I think you got double screwed on the BCS and the Heisman)

2. The Big 12 will revert to history next year. Texas and Oklahoma will cake walk through the rest of the league, Mizzou and the rest of the north will be mediocre at best and the chamiponship game will be a 1st quarter laugher. Put me down for a bet on that.

Unfortunately the Big 10 won't be much better and Notre Dame will thus get off to a 5 - 0 start. Mark that in my v-bet book too.

Oregon will start out on fire, catch two important injuries and spend October in decline. USC will cake walk all season long and end Notre Dame's winning streak.

Compared to all the interesting things that happened this year, Oregon State, Texas Tech, Okie State, Ol' Miss, U Cincinnati and the complete collapse of Michigan, 09 will be exceedingly predictable and dull.

Terrell will make the dullness easier to take.

Gold Star and Hat's off to the Mods (4 Stars for the Mods) and everyone that is envolved with making sure the Scarlet and Silver Planet keeps turning.

Not to be overly sensitive or anything, but it's "scarlet and gray" not silver.

Thanks for the kind words, however.

I'm not gonna lie but after I saw that last play where Texas scored, I starting crying. Seriously, the game was in our hands...like literally we had that interception chance, and then to blow coverage like that? I just had to get that off my chest. I only became a fan of OSU during the National Championship game against Miami (long story) but I have so much passion for this team. I don't cry often but I was just so upset I started completely balling. Couldn't help myself. This may be random but I had to get it off my chest.

Back from the desert. Sorry I couldn't bring home the W with me or smoke the cubans I brought with my buddy, but that was one hell of a game (and one hell of a road trip!).

------------
I thought I would share what I gathered from my post-game interviews with the Longhorn fans while drowning my sorrows with the Buckeye fans at Fox Sports Grill & Bar after the game (all of the below I mention were all heard from multiple fans I talked to):

-Pryor reminds them "big-time" of Vince Young. "He's one hell of a player and he's gonna be a special one for you guys." In my opinion, a compliament of the highest form from a fan base that knows their Vince. I can't tell you how many times they named Vince when talking about Terrelle or how many compliaments I got about Terelle. One guy was shocked to find out he was only a freshman and shook his head.

-They were "lucky to come out of there with a win" and big kudos to our defense. "Definetly the best defense we played all year."

-They "want nothing to do with us over the next two years", for the most part because of Terrelle. Another huge compliament, considering McCoy's for sure coming back next year.

-The were "not expecting this to be a very close game", meant without disrespect. Believe me, no offense taken.

-They hate Sam Bradford with a passion and "pretty much the whole state of Oklahoma". If anyone understands that kind of dislike for another university (or state), it's us.

-They were also very compliamentary about Beanie ("That kid's the real deal when he's not sitting on the bench"), Boeckman, Robiskie, Ballard's catch, Jenkins ("We pretty much threw away from that #2 tonight"), Thad Gibson (half for his 2 personal fouls that pretty much made their first scoring drive, half for his play in their backfield), "Your punter" (Trapasso), and "That #1 guy" (Herron).

-----------------
Their words definetly quickened the healing process for me. Funny thing was that the majority of the Longhorn fans were sitting at the tables enjoying their food and beverages while the bar was made up primariliy of Buckeye fans. Another funny thing was that the Longhorn fans at the bar were MUCH more classy and hospitable than those we experienced during most of the pre-game festivities (which I'll admit, most of them really bad ones were fairly drunk). Every fan base has their bad apples, though.

I'm not sure how it looked on TV yet, but it seemed to me it was ~55% UT fans, ~45% OSU fans. Believe me, us Buckeye fans were as loud as we could possibly be in section 416. Not only were we screaming on 3rd and 4th down when we were on defense, we were screaming on most 1st and 2nd downs as well. I hope we sounded loud on TV, because it sounded like we were louder than them in the stadium when it came down to crunch time.

Props to the Longhorns for an amazing bowl game. They are without a doubt the best fans in college football that I've ever encountered.

As bummed out as I was after the game I feel pretty good about it now. Sure, a loss is a loss. But the guys left is ALL out on the field. For the most part, we played a good game offensively and a great game defensively. I'm disappointed in Beanie's early departure from the game...that probably cost us big time.

But if you take a step back, Tressel's bowl preparation and performance is getting better. The UF bowl was a disaster.....LSU was actually decent but not great...Texas was very good but almost great. If he can exorcise the "play for a FG" demons and Pryor improves his footwork in the pocket, Ohio State will be a tough game for ANYONE, including Florida or USC.

I really like what I see with the young players...how can you not ?

If this were a stock portfolio contest, I'd be buying Ohio State Football stock.

For a month i was telling everyone that Ohio State would beat Texas and no one thought that this was going to happen. Just felt that "Defense wins games" and stuck by it. And with 54 seconds left with Texas on 4th down and 3 to go that the Buckeyes could hold them. My heart was in my throat as i watched the ref put it down one yard short of the spot. But it all went for not and, well the rest is history. But it was close for awhile. You just had the feeling that McCoy was going to pull one off and he did. Cosby made a great catch and you can't take it away from them. It was a great game and we are all proud of our Buckeyes for the effort they put forth.
