Game Thread FIESTA BOWL: tOSU 21, Texas 24 (01-05-09)

A truly heartbreaking loss. I'm proud at the heart we showed, we tried so hard but missed just a few opprotuninties and lost the game. I'm not even going to attempt to play the blame game. It's truly aggonizing to watch this great senior class have it end this way. There's always next year.... Go Buckeyes..

I know we should be proud, given the hype, but it is harder when we were so close to feel that way.

Also, and I typically hate the sour grapes crowd, but their first TD drive, apart from the two 4th down plays, was possible because of: 1) a phantom call of roughing and hit to the head (that even the announcers said was such), without even an arm to the head (hit the shoulder pad it appeared, and was regardless silly); and 2) a PI of knocking down the arm of the passer, which the announcers cheered, or at least mentioned, happened to Robo earlier in the game killing a possible TD drive of our own. Bullshit.

Oh well.

I hate to be that guy, but right now, my beer and I are that guy. . .

The thing that kept going through my mind at the time was that the challenge had no chance, but it would at least give the D a breather....

Yes that made perfect sense. What didn't make sense was given the little time left not using timeouts and allowing them to run a hurry up offense inside the thirty.

I love what our coaches did tonight, their game plan was in my mind tremendous. However LSU 07, Texas's 2nd 3rd quarter td, and their final td our defense was caught with their pants down. Call some timeouts, and regroup on such crucial drives.

Every loss is tough to take, but our guys really gave it their all in this game. As fans, we can't ask for more than that. The players' intensity and energy was a big lift for me.

Thank you to the seniors. Special props to TB.

Congrats to the Horns. It took a great team to mount a comeback like that. Like MJ is saying in the post-game, they earned everything they got.

And thanks to the classy UT fans. Hope ya'll stick around...
..Pretty much everything that needs to be said.

This loss really hurts...feel pretty numb right now.

A lot of IF ONLY's in this game.

Our boys played their hearts out though. Very proud of their performance. Especially the way they came back. We could have, and perhaps, should have, won this game.

GO BUCKS!!

So much to say...yet still so little.

Thoughts are scattered throughout my head.

Texas is a great team. The Buckeyes played like a great team tonight, as well.

Chekwa got picked on all night. Crosby was ridiculous.

I hated the blitz on the last TD. Drop back and let them get there's. Defend the endzone. No one-on-one where a missed tackle changes the game. On the other hand- gotta tackle.

Scored too soon. But, what a sweet 4th quarter.

Disappeared for a while. Left a lot out there on the offensive side.

We played so well, but not for 60 minutes. In the end, it looked good, but not good enough.

Boeckman!

Finally, just a great game. GREAT GAME. If Buckeyes would have won, it would have been one of the greatest Buckeye victories ever. Came up short. Hats off to Texas. I have no issues with their program. Good people. Good players.

It's going to be a LONG 9 months until the Buckeyes take the football field. Not so much a sour taste in my mouth, but...I don't know...just a tough way to enter a 9 month Buckeye football hiatus. Time to look forward to the spring game.

Can't forget- SENIORS!!!

Questionable call to blitz at the end but it was working the whole game, so it is what it is.

Just to note on that last play, first. We had blitzed all game. If you watch that play it was a play were the backers came up showing blitz but failed to drop faster than Colt threw the pass and a missed tackle to boot. If they would have backed up a second quicker it would have been a pick.

You have to be pleased with the effort shown tonight. The execution left me wanting in a couple of areas. In total though, we dominated up front for 3 of the four quarters, including the fourth. The hurry-up was confusing our coaching staff at first. But man what a gutty fourth quarter from our guys and you have to give credit to the seniors for that. Minus our third quarter play calling (short stints on O) and the hurry up that Texas called, I think OSU wins by 10. Not bad at all for a 10 point dog.

Thanks Seniors.

GO BUCKS!!!

Oh, the life of a Buckeye fan. Lots of joy, some dissappointment here and there, a sprinkle of resentment, and a ton of loyalty. The Buckeyes played a great game, lots of ifs and buts (if we would have called that, but the officiating blah blah, etc. ) it just wasn't in the cards tonight. :io:

Did I mention beer? It has always been there for me. Come to me, old friend, heal my wounds. . .

Not sure about healing any wounds. Last time we lost to UT I shotgunned a couple of natties and took some shoots, and ended up passing out til three and cried like a bitch after i woke up. If you want healing play with the dog or cat.

What can I say great game overall. Good effort from the Bucks and tough plucky team that didn't say die. While it sucks that we lost, I will get over this. It's like I told my friend who came over to watch the game... this loss would be much easier if Texas was easy to hate or the officials blew chode, but overall it was just a good game. Congrats to both teams...
All I gotta say is this
~10 days till Spring Game 09
242 days till we host a decent Navy squad and a dangerous triple option attack.

Will miss you seniors... GO BUCKS

I love the seniors to death, especially the ones who bypassed the big money for one more year of college.

The TEAM played their hearts out and despite what the talking heads will come up with, they have nothing to be ashamed of.

Tress was brought in to win the Big Ten and beat scUM; something he has done an amazing job of.

BUT, in my opinion this style will not win big games. I realize if we make the MISSED FG, we are looking at OT and who knows. Just one try at a 4th down instead of settling for 3 (how many times did Texas convert on 4th down) and maybe we win in regulation and there is no need to even go to OT.

I respectfully disagree. Tressel's style has won big games it will win big games and tonight proved it. We were a dropped interception away (twice on the last drive) from winning this game. We missed a field goal, got some ghost calls on us and still came back in the 4th quarter. If we win this game, all this BS talk of not being able to "win the big game" goes away . . . well until the next big game.

And while I'm on the subject of big games is the National Championship no longer considered a big game? How about the 2nd Texas game against Colt McCoy, the UM game when UM was ranked 2nd, I mean damn how are those NOT considered big games? Please stop going to church at First Baptist Bar and Grill OSU located in the ESPN studios and listening to pastor Mark May and the rest of the clown choir, they're full of shit.

I'm sorry folks but Tressel is the best damn coach I've ever seen at this University and I watched Woody coach this team in the 70's. Woody didn't win 'em all either just like Tressel won't.

I'm sorry I ranted, I'm sorry we lost, but our boys played their guts out, we missed a field goal a couple interception chances and a tackle at the end there and that's the difference in the game. Otherwise, the naysayers are slapping each other on their backs instead jumping on "coaching style", etc.
