Ohio State's new FieldTurf plays fast, some Buckeyes say.

Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel said Ohio Stadium's new artificial surface "energizes you."
The fans who show up tonight for the open practice already will be jazzed to watch their beloved Buckeyes, so imagine the frenzy when they get their first look at the new turf.
"It looks nice," Tressel said. "It just energizes you with the way it looks, so it's exciting."
Tressel spoke Saturday after a scrimmage, the first time the squad took snaps on the artificial surface.

I think it will just take getting used to like the new unis. At first glance I thought it just looked like Wisconsins field. Actually NCAA 08 for EA sports I thought screwed up Ohio Stadium but looks like they were right LOL. However I will miss the Gray "O" at the 50 yard line.

I sat in C-deck (endzone) today and thought the field looked "kind of dirty". Parts of the green seemed to be darker than other parts and the endzone painting did not look to be sharp uniform colors. Maybe it was just some black rubber chips on the surface. I don't know. Anyone else that went to the game have a comment on the new turf?

It was indeed the rubber pellets, that will fade as the season goes on as they get worked into the surface.

I had to chuckle a bit after the entire alumni band had done the Ramp Entrance + Across the Field to start, so before the first snap there were tread marks running the length of the field from the marching band. Then, after the quad-Script Ohio at halftime, you could still read the 'Ohio' s in the field through the entire second half.

I thought the field looked pretty bad. I know the rubber pellets will settle but what is up with the stitching across the field where they probably connected some of the pieces? I looked like a bad quality field turf to me compared to others such as Cincinnati and Baltimore in the NFL.

They ain't got no alibi,
It's ugly, yeah, yeah it's ugly.

I'm back to the 70's baseball star, Dick Allen, who said, "If horses can't eat it I ain't playing on it."

The field is a hideous shade of green that screams "artificial" like a bad toupee. The block 'O' and the end zones are nice. The footing was superior.

Maybe it will tone down a few shades and be no more hideous than the old artificial surface, but right now get used to saying words like 'bilious.'

I still don't understand how, with a super pumping system and a team of experts caring for the field everyday, they weren't able to grow real grass... and please, no more bull shit about too much rain. That grass field must have been horribly mismanaged.
