My guess is that Bo just rolled over in his grave.

My guess is that Bo rolled over in his grave on December 16, 2007.

In response, Woody was quoted as saying, "Jim... go for two..."

If you follow Ohio State recruiting with some serious interest, or even follow Ohio State football with the slightest of interest, you may have come across the Boren name by now. If you haven?t heard, Justin Boren ? older brother of the Zach Boren in question ? (in)famously made headlines when he transferred from the University of Michigan?s football to play for Ohio State as a non-scholarship. This move came on April 23rd, and ? looking ahead ? Zach committed 7 days later to the Buckeyes. Your working assumption might be that the younger brother just naturally followed the older brother, with the trail set by the latter. This would actually be incorrect. While Justin was still a starter for Michigan, Zach made a regional splash in the recruiting world when he announced that he was no lock to follow his father?s footsteps, or his older brother?s precedent, to the University of Michigan.

The kid is too much of a football player to not find a niche at OSU. I do think he'll end up as a fullback, or LEO. I think the negative comments he generates are due to his body type. He looks like a DT not a back or even a linebacker. If your initial reaction is no way, you'll find all the negatives because that's what you are looking for. Much of the criticism is like that Spielman received. Unfortunately, we saw how good Pickerington was without Zach after his injury.

This is a great little surprise! Moved from LBer to fullback and really not expected to do much this year. Even thought of as a "favor" to the family.
Now Tressel thinks he can play this year. Homan may be more athletic, but this kid is a tough, hard-nosed worker. Great kid. Great family.

Freshman Zach Boren winning praise from Tressel: Ohio State Insider
by Doug Lesmerises/Plain Dealer Reporter
Monday August 24, 2009

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- He wasn't the first guy the roughly 4,000 fans who showed up at Ohio State's public practice on Monday were seeking.

He plays an unglamorous position, is a true freshman and isn't even the most famous Buckeye in his family. But when asked which player stood out after stepping back and analyzing Saturday's scrimmage, the biggest day of preseason evaluation for the Buckeyes, it was Zach Boren who Jim Tressel named.

"He went from not having played at all and being listed on the depth chart as a linebacker, to showing in that scrimmage that I think he could be a really good contributor at fullback," Tressel said.

The Buckeyes also like James Georgiades and freshman Adam Homan at fullback, so for Boren to earn special mention means he's doing something right. It helps that the younger brother of Justin Boren -- the Michigan transfer and starter at left guard who is expected back at practice from a knee injury by the end of the week -- is willing to do anything.

"They left it open that I could still go back to linebacker," Boren said, "but I don't worry much about that. They tell me where to go and where I can help and that's what I do."
