FB/LB David Durham (transfer to Pittsburgh)

Coming to my area of the world? Nice.

Charlotte Christian made it to the state championship game two years ago, and won it last year IIRC, and and have a pretty good squad coming back. He'll be sharing the LB duties with UNC committ Ty Linton, so he'll have some talent around him, as well as fellow LB Kelby Brown, who has a few D1 offers IIRC. Overall they face mostly average and below average teams outside of Charlotte Latin, and Charlotte Country Day.

I'm kind of puzzled, however, at the fact that he's going to Charlotte Christian over some of the other schools in the area. Independence is a power and Tommy Knotts is in his last year as coach so they are gunning for a state title (And they are on my schedule, oh joy), and Butler is absolutely loaded, with underclassman QB Christian Lemay leading them, they may be the best team in NC for the next two years because their '11 class is absolutely loaded.

Bucknuts.com - Will David Durham Consider North Carolina?

Apparently he ended up at that school because that's where they used to live and where he went to school through 7th grade. His father was transferred back to the area.

He mentioned in the article that he grew up a North Carolina fan but he is "100 percent Buckeye and that is not going to change".

Here is a quote from Duane Long talking about Durham as a possibility for the Leo position:

The other I like in this role is David Durham. He might be an even better candidate as he played a much more disciplined linebacker than Sabino in high school. I saw linebacker film of him and wondered why anyone would project him as a defensive end, then I saw film of him a few weeks later as a defensive end and saw why.

Interesting that he states the competition in NC is faster than his Texas competition? I jsut wonder if he's now in a better league?
Depends on who he's facing.

Christian is a good school so they are likely playing in 7 on 7's vs other good schools... like Independence, Butler, Charlotte Country Day, West Charlotte, Mallard Creek, Charlotte Latin, and some SC schools that have plenty of speed.

I'm not really sure what Charlotte Christian is doing for their 7 on 7's but I just thought I'd throw this out there..

Westlake is big time in Texas High School football.
However, when you really think of the best of the best in Texas football you think of the Dallas and Houston schools. THey are (IMO) far superior.

Knights linebackers rank among N.C.'s best

Charlotte Christian linebackers Ty Linton (from left), David Durham and Kelby Brown have been recruited by Division 1 programs. JEFF SINER - [email protected]

Charlotte Christian is a private school in southeast Charlotte with 350 students in grades nine through 12. Annual tuition is $15,360.

The Knights aren't part of the N.C. High School Athletic Association, but only 24 of the 360 mostly public NCHSAA schools are smaller.

So it's a little unusual for a school like Christian to have three highly recruited college football players.

It's even more unusual that they would all play the same position.

As the 2009 football season kicks off Aug. 21, few teams nationally have the kind of talent the Knights will trot out at linebacker: Ty Linton (6-foot-2, 215 pounds) has committed to North Carolina; David Durham (6-3, 226) has committed to Ohio State; and Kelby Brown (6-2, 200) committed to Duke.
Recruiting service scout.com ranks Linton 49th nationally among senior outside linebackers. It ranks Durham 55th. In scout.com's N.C. rankings, Linton is first at his position, Durham third (behind West Rowan's Chris Smith) and Brown fourth.

?It's different. It's unusual,? Durham said, ?but it's something special. Something like this only happens once in a while, and I'm really excited to be a part of it.?

Durham started playing football with Linton in fourth grade. At Weddington Middle School, Durham was part of a group of future major college recruits. The team included Durham, Litton, Ardrey Kell defensive end Prince Shembo (considering multiple offers), Providence receiver Braxton Deaver (Duke) and Weddington High quarterback Anthony Boone (Duke).

?We were really good,? Durham said, ?but we all split up.?

Durham, whose father Tim played college football at Mississippi, began high school football in Austin, Texas, where his father's sales job took the family when David was in seventh grade. Last season at Westlake (Texas) High, Durham had 64 tackles, five sacks and was all-district before he chose Ohio State over Illinois, Virginia and West Virginia.

The family returned to Charlotte this year and David enrolled at Christian, where he was reunited with Linton, his middle-school teammate.
