Catching Up With David Durham

If you could tell Buckeye fans one thing, what would it be?

I have had the opportunity to see a lot of great programs with outstanding tradition. Coach Tressel has assembled a terriffic group of people at The Ohio State University who all strive for excellence. The more people I meet, from the university and from the state, the more I know that I made the right decision to become a Buckeye.

Scout $ - Buckeye Instant Impact: David Durham

Senior film shows he's much improved in his play, his physicality, & his strength... Bank projects him to end up a 260 lb DE but could also see him contributing at ILB, LEO, and possibly even FB... Could see the field next year & describes his game as a not quite as fast Austin Spitler.

He's a somewhat under-the-radar prospect that Ohio State fans don't know a lot about yet.

David Durham from Charlotte, N.C., is a verbal commitment in OSU's 2010 recruiting class and he's a versatile player who could surprise some folks when he arrives in Columbus.

Durham (6-foot-3, 225) is a defensive playmaker, and he comes equipped with a great work ethic and an outstanding attitude.

He is ranked as the No. 30 defensive end in the country by ESPN.com's Scouts Inc., and he picked the Buckeyes over offers from Illinois, Virginia, West Virginia and others.

Durham actually played most of his prep career in the Austin, Texas, area, but moved back to his hometown his senior year and attended Charlotte Christian High School.

"I think the best thing that happened to me was just to get around a different style of coaching staff," Durham said. "I loved the coaches down in Texas that we had, but here I was around a coaching staff that was a little more laid back and I got a lot of different looks on offense and defense. And I had a chance to be around my best friends and play with them this year. So, that was definitely the best part about coming back.

"It was definitely tough to join a team that had been together for a while already and had won a state championship last year. That was kind of tough on me at first. But about 4-5 weeks into the season, we jelled together and got on a roll and we ended up going to the state championship game [which they lost]. The season didn't turn out the way we wanted to, but hey, can't win 'em all."

I have to agree with David a lot of people are sleeping on this class. A ton of versitility, guys who can play spots on both sides of the ball and a lot of guys who have a lot of potential and some late bloomers as well. I get kinda frustrated when I hear our fans rag on this class, if we end strong with 3 or 4 guys and avoid grade troubles this class could be special.

When did David say that?

As for the Buckeyes' 2010 recruiting class, it likely won't finish in the top five of the national rankings like the previous two classes. However, it's still a solid class and Durham has already gotten to know some of his future teammates.

"Oh yeah," he said. "I know Scott McVey, Chad Hagan and Taylor Graham real well those are the guys I know the best. I also hung out a lot with Rod Smith, the running back, when I was up there on a visit. Scott McVey is probably who I'm closest to in this class.

"I think we're going to be a great class. I think a lot of people are doubting us because we're only taking 18 guys, but I think the guys that we do have are all top of the line."

LONG time reader, but never posted.... That was a really good read. This is why I love Tressel, I really think this is the type of person he loves to recruit, and his favorite type of player to add to the Buckeye family. David Durham's parents should be very proud of their son, I truly believe Buckeye Nation will be if they are already not!!!

Welcome MU Buck!!!
