FB/LB David Durham (transfer to Pittsburgh)

Really like this offer. Good instincts, strong at the point of attack, good frame, and 100% effort, all against great competition. I personally think he is a DE all the way...I just never saw him getting to the play in time to square up on the tackle. Kudos for making the play in any event but I think his sideline to sideline speed could be a liability against the spread. I think he is either a solid MLB against the run who struggles at times, or an athletic DE who can also be strong against the run at the next level. I think the Schlegel comparisons are dead on, only Durham has a better frame.

I'm with you on this. There aren't a whole lot of clips of him at MLB in the scout vid but he looks so good and natural in a 3 point stance. I think he has a chance to be good starter at LEO. Looks like a smaller Nathan Williams.

Good point...I watched it again and there really wasn't much to go off from the MLB position. Nontheless I still think he is better suited at DE.

David Durham - College Football Recruiting 2010 - ESPN

Evaluation

Durham will fill several roles for his team on defense and is a kid who could project to several spots in college. We would not be surprised to see him land at linebacker or play a hybrid role early on, but feel in the long run he will settle in at the end spot. He has solid size and displays the frame to add more good bulk when he gets into a college weight program and focuses on football. He has a good get-off from the end spot. He is a physical player at the point of attack. Displays the ability to come off the ball with good pad level and generate power from his lower body. Though he needs to be a bit more consistent he is good with his hands and will use them to create separation and shed. Does a good job of squeezing down and moves well laterally to work along the line of scrimmage and stay square and navigate around blocks. Displays a good feel for the game. He displays solid straight line speed. We feel he fits better at end because he is best near the line scrimmage and being allowed to vertically attack. He is a good wrap-up tackler though he can leave his feet more then you would like. He is a good pass rusher who will attack the outside shoulder. He is good at using his weapons to try and knock the blockers hands down and work past. He stays active and is tough to keep blocked. Durham is a kid with a blue collar feel to his game. You could plug him in at a few spots and he would buckle up and go. In the long run end seems like the best fit, but regardless of how he is used he is a pretty good defender.

What division is his new school? Do they play some difficult teams? I wonder if the move will move him up the ratings scale. I figured he would likely move up anyways, but he might have gotten lost in some of the other players on his team. I know his last school was very good academically and had some D1 talent in many positions on their football team.
