Ex-Wolverine BS (all merged - including the tearful goodbyes)

Ex,

Folks on this board want to see OSU do well... if scUM has a bad season all the better.

1. NC's are what everybody wants.
2. Winning the big ten is second
3. beating scUM is third (and is usually a requirement to get #2 as well as #1)

I am a graduate of OU (the first OU founded in 1804... not the place that wasn't even part of the US or a territory at that point :wink2: ). I root for OSU, and if/when OSU plays OU, I am rooting for OSU... if anybody has a "second fav. team" that team is so far down the priority list, it isn't worth talking about.

I like the Big Ten to do well (and root for ALL Big Ten teams when they play out of conference teams... yes that includes scUM).

Looking at your post it seems like you have a couple of teams you really like, and are put in a pickle if/when your fav. teams play each other... the folks on this board have one single fav. team, we are not put in the pickle you might find yourself in.

Board,

This guy is only asking questions... he doesn't know what it's like to be a buckeye fan. Lets help him learn what it is to be a buckeye fan.

They went hard on you... giving you more ribbin' than you deserve, however I'm sure it will loosen up...

sorry you walked into a hornets nest, once spring ball comes around, talk will open up towards the team, and not as much offseason ribbin' will take place... I think there is venom in some of the politic's threads :tongue2:

Go Rainbows!

In case you didn't notice, which I am sure you didn't, Michigan is in the quarterfinals of the NIT, playing Hawaii tonight.

My girlfriend, a UM student, couldn't care less about UM sports. She rooted for UM to lose all season except against USC (she has the same hatred for USC, Cal, Stanford and UCLA that I have...she shares my contempt for the entire state...what a perfect woman...), and laughed when UM was embarrassed by Oregon.

But when she found out UM was in the quarterfinals against Hawaii, she called me right away and said she HAD to go. She bought the tickets right away, so we're going.

Why is she so excited about this game? She was born and raised in Hawaii. If you ever saw her, you would probably know right away that she is Hawaiian. She's pumped to go and see Hawaii punk out Michigan on their own floor. She's going to be decked out in Rainbows gear, and I am going to try to wear green too.

So, I don't know if the game is on TV, but if it is, will you all help us root on the Rainbows? And if you see a big guy in green with weezer glasses cheering for Hawaii with an asian girl decked out in Hawaii gear, that's me!

GO RAINBOWS!!!

I'll "root" for the "Rainbows." But, I can't "pull" for them. Seriously, a name change is probably the best thing for them to do other than beat scUM. (And I use the term "beat" loosely).
Well, nationwide, they are the Hawaii Warriors.

But nobody in Hawaii wants them to be anything but the Rainbows, and that's what they are called there.

But I am pumped to see some tournament basketball, and I am so excited to see Hawaii win tonight!

Ex-Dub: "Well, nationwide, they are the Hawaii Warriors."

I think (but don't quote me on this), that they were the Warriors, but changed the nickname to the Rainbows because of the, "Native American disrespect in sports names" fiasco. Their logo used to be an Indian with a spear or something, and that's why its been changed.

Again, don't quote me, I could be wrong on this (Mili might know), but I think that's the case.

No, they were the Rainbows, and changed their name to the "Warriors." The whole "Native American" fiasco doesn't really apply to Hawaii because, while there were indiginous peoples in Hawaii before the Haoles came in, and they do still want their sovereignty, it's not "Native Americans" that have the problem. It's not like their logo features an indian of any sort. The "Warriors" Hawaii is referring to are the island natives. They see it a different way.

I don't know if you have ever seen a Hawaii game, but there is a big Samoan who dresses in a grass skirt with a bone through his nose and carries a big pole of some sort. It's not authentic Hawaiian, it's more Samoan, but it's not an Indian.

The name change isn't popular amongst Hawaiians native or otherwise. It's not because they took a name that might be construed by some liberal pantywaist as "stereotyping," but rather because they were the Rainbows for so long that they didn't want the name changed.

Here's an article on one group that was pissed that the name changed:
Hawaii Warriors
