ESPN (A bunch of Death-Spiraling maroons)

Did you guys hear about this:

Apparently there's some mythical SECEspin 'Car Wash' and none of the B1G coaches attended.

I know it's not really washing cars, but thanks for the visual, SECEspin. Yet another reason why I hate you now.

Last thing I think I'd want to see in my mind is Bert on top of a Jetta in a wife beater washing it...

"Car Wash" is what they call it when a figure goes to Bristol and appears on all the different shows/platforms throughout the day. Urban Meyer did it last year.

"Car wash" is just a public relations savvy way of saying "spin cycle/doctor." You can equate it to the idea that the baseline charity event an organization does to raise money & goodwill is to hold a car wash (literal). A media entity car wash is a week long masturbatory frenzy where every show gets access to every coach to lob softball questions and get on the coaches good side.

The B1G car wash has typically happened the week after media days in Chicago. This is also when ESPN films their GameDay/This Is SportsCenter commercials, and gets the confessional-style interviews that are intercut in nationally televised broadcasts.

It drives me insane this agenda ESPN is rolling with, asking SEC COACHES what they think about Michigan's satellite camps.

Look, I don't give a shit whether it was right or wrong to host these events.. No way in hell should they ever ask an SEC coach their thoughts on the matter. They've shown zero regard for roster limitations and over signing rules. Add to that, their revolutionizing of the gray shirt.

Spare me, shitheads. When an SEC team wins it all, that's all they talk about. When a Big Ten team wins it all, all they talk about is SEC...

This list is so stupid I'm not even going to visit the mothership to look up FPI and figure out what it's trying to measure. Any metric of "Football Power" in the present or averaged over a period of recent years has to include Auburn, Florida St, and Michigan St in its Top 10.

Arkansas was playing half-decent football at the end of last season. Worthy of speculatively being ranked in the 20's I think. They certainly don't belong any where near a top ten.

Oregon has replaced QBs before and maintained a top-ten program. They have an effective system in place and I think they've earned the benefit of the doubt. I wouldn't put them in the top five, but I think #7 is fair.

I take greater issue with LSU. They are the inverse of Oregon. They need to prove to me that they have a functional QB or can win again in spite of whoever they have before they should get the benefit of the doubt.

Even if you measure a recent Top 10 on recruit ratings, pro production, major award winners, and the product on the field over a period of 3-4 years, Arkansas and Ole Miss should not be in this group. Then you can at least make an argument for A&M because of Johnny Foosball and the other draft talent produced, but FSU and Sparty or Auburn is in there ahead of one good half season from an SEC West bottom feeder.

They've done so twice, with Masoli and Mariota. They don't have anyone near Mariota's caliber on the bench right now. I can see them losing three games in the regular season next year.

  • They're bringing in Vernon Adams, a grad transfer from Eastern Washington and FCS All-American. Not as good as Mariota, but he can play ball.
  • I agree that they'll likely lose some games. Three-loss teams were ranked 8-9-10 and beyond in last season's final AP Poll. If they end up losing three, you can count on them being ranked at the front of that group of teams. #7 in the preseason isn't necessarily far off from your expectations.

It's not trying to measure anything. It's trying to get out in front of the narrative and into the heads of the pollsters. One of the key aspects to SEC! is the ridiculous early rankings. That way when somebody beats a top ten aggy early in the season, it's the greatest victory in the history of college football, and the winner gets a huge bump. Meanwhile, by the time aggy is 6-5 in November, it's too late to reassess everything based on what the meaningless victory really meant. I'm sure that it grinds their gears not to be able to put SEC! in as a preseason number one and only a situation as ridiculous as Ohio State's level of returning talent on a defending NC team is preventing it.

Especially if that EWU transfer happens... he'll plug into that system very nicely.
A trip to East Lansing, hosting USC (could be back on the rise?), and an obligatory loss to a Utah or AZ school ?
