ESPN (A bunch of Death-Spiraling maroons)

Was watching their commercial that has the team names flipping down in a bracket slot like the old-style flipping-number alarm clocks...they've changed the team now to where Ohio State isn't even shown at all (their first version did include us).

So what about their claim that they televise B1G games via ABC (and ESPN and ESPN2) so they want the B1G to be good? I fully believe that their objective is to maximize Disney's profits- what is their strategy to accomplish this?
They basically have 1st tier rights to everyone. That means that to maximize profit on those games they need one good game every week in every conference. They achieve that by having one or two top 15 teams in each conference.

They own the 3rd tier of the SEC (sec network) and probably some second tier as well. That means to maximize those profits they need 4-5 good games every week in that conference. That can only be achieved by having 6 top 15 teams and another few in the top 25.

Higher ranked teams make more money and they need more ranked teams in the SEC.

The best part is that it's a computer model.
I generally preferred the computers to the worthless AP during the BCS era... and towards the end over the Coaches and Harris (which seemed to fall into lock step w/AP after awhile) ... but I've often wondered what the end result would be if you actually used Sagarin or Massey to bet during the bowl season (which is what they're designed for - beating the spread by predicting score difference).
I have a feeling it'd result in financial ruin. I'm not
There's a reason you can't go back in time to look at Sagarin's ELO predictors; but everyone cites them for current arguments.

Was at a bar having lunch today, ESPN was doing their regular bit with Bayless and Smith. Bayless said he expects at LEAST 3 SEC teams to make the playoff. Smith asked him, for all their talk about the SEC, if there's any merit to a Big 12 team or B1G team being on par with these SEC teams, Bayless emphatically said no. Bayless' argument regarding 'Bama and Oklahoma last year: 'Bama's championship dreams were smashed, so they had no wind in their sails. For what it's worth, Smith thinks there will be 2 SEC teams in the playoff. Their next topic: Cam Newton is the new Tebow, or something along those lines. I tried to focus on my food.
