(Duplicate) Defensive Coordinator Luke Fickell (official thread)

I think the Pat Fitzgerald are apt. Hot shot young assistant coach, alum, young, energetic. I have total faith in Coach Fickell's recruiting ability, if he turns out to be as good a coach as Fitz, I think we may have our man right now.

The deck is absolutely stacked against him right now. He's taking over a team that has had it's heart ripped out, has the ncaa digging through every drawer and closet, a freshman class that is probably wondering what they got themselves into, assistant coaches that probably wonder what their future is, a handful of '12 commits that I'm sure are questioning their decisions...geeze. If he can navigate his way through that mess and come out on the other side with a decent season and hold this team together, I'd have a hard time not giving him a five year contract. Sometimes great leaders are born in tumultuous times...I'll be rooting for him.

I hope that you are right, but this one is going to be hard for some players to turn the other way and pretend like nothing happened. Luke has his hands full right now and with possible sanctions he could be really up against the wall.

With that being said, if he can pull this off and get the team past this year, sporting a successful record on the field and off the field (which apparently seems to be the real challenge now days) he could end up being our HC for the next 30 years.

Here's hoping that Luke can weather the storm...

i think fickell can and will do a great job...we still have alot of talent here for him to work with...its not like the brady hoke situation where is walking into a football program where he has to start true freshman at half the positions...he has been here throughout every kid on the teams tenure so they know the person fickell is...i wish him the best and hope that he can guide us to a respectable season...finally we all need to worry about who the next head coach is next year....let fickell do his job and see what happens

If Pat Fitzgerald had the resources of an elite program he'd be dangerous. If Fickell can be anything like him he'll be a keeper.

Report on 97.1 this morning.. St Edward recruit called to de-commit last night, after speaking with Fickell, decided to stay committed.
That's a great sign. With all these violations recruiting will be very tough the next couple years, especially if OSU loses scholarships. Fickell will have to be a great communicator with recruits.

If Fickell ends up untainted by all this (and my god, how incompetent would the AD have to be to have not vetted him already) and provided there's confidence that he is they guy to continue the good off-field things about JT (apr, grad rates), then unless this season is a total on-field disaster, he should get the job permanently.

The one thing that keeps me optimistic is that Luke has had 14 years in the Buckeye system - 4 with coop and 10 with Tress.

I doubt your going to find a HC that will work harder for a team than Luke likely is right now. I hope that he knows this is his one great shot, and goes all out with whatever he has in him to make this work.

As much as I'd love to see some fantastic coach come in, having Luke on the sidelines for more than a year would be great, as he could stay here a long, LONG time.

If he can just get rid of Bollman, and get a great OC, we will be golden I think. He has the weapons, he just has to use them right, and he'll be our HC for the next 10, 20, or even 30 years.

USC's program has been in the shits lately and they don't seem to have a problem recruiting.
