Fickell will not be Jim Tressel. There will never be another Tressel.

Fickell will be Fickell, and there will probably never be another Fickell. I have faith that he can the job done well.

Won't this be the first time Ohio State and Michigan play each other when both schools have a 1st year coach?

Nope!

Not since 1929, Harry Kipke for TSUN and Sam Willaman for tOSU.

I don't actually recall it, either. Or the similar occurrences in 1892 and 1897.

The official website doesn't have any mention of "interim" head coach.
It also doesn't say anything about his degree. Does anyone know what it is? Any post-graduate degrees? Would Ohio State turn him down for a permanent head coaching job because of a lack of education in his case?
Pretty sure that in order to be hired as a head coach, according to AFCA, you have to have a post-bachelors degree.

When John Johnson isn't working on the movie Buster, he and a former OSU football star who doesn't want to be named at this point are spearheading an effort to get the interim tag removed from Ohio State football coach Luke Fickell's title and get both Fickell and the OSU staff "four- or five-year contracts."

Johnson said they are working on an e-mail to all former OSU
varsity football players and coaches, asking them to sign a letter of support for that position.

"Jim (Tressel) was 9-1 against Michigan, but with all due respect, he didn't do that by himself," Johnson said. "Luke Fickell and Jim Heacock and all those others coaches were a huge part of that. I'm sure Jim Tressel would say that. I think they deserve a chance and not on some kind of interim basis."

I don't see the 4/5 year contract.. I would think 2 years is fair to see what stamp he can put on the team. Not sure how a 2 year deal would look to recruits, but, how does "interim" look?

Its either all or nothing....two years with possible heavy sanctions does not a fair chance make

If Fickell goes 9-1 just like Tressel, We'll be only 5 wins away from tying the series.

If he wins this November, the record for conference games between the two teams will be 45--45-4.
