DT Luke Fickell (HC Wisconsin Badgers)

I wonder with Luke getting the ball rolling at UC and making them respectable, if he could bolt after this season. I was thinking that he could replace Brohm at Purdue, but with Brohm staying, I wonder if Fickell could just go 2hrs south to Louisville and replace Petrino
I've seen his name tossed around but I just don't see it happening. Luke is an Ohio guy, he finally had a good season as a head coach, I've heard the Louisville athletic department is bit in disarray and their roster doesn't look too good. It just doesn't seem like a good move for guys like Fickell and Brohm who both are building something and have good job security in jobs that aren't too far down in prestige from Louisville.

Just because he’s an OH guy, doesnt mean he can’t coach in other places. The fact that Louisville is in disarray makes paying him high because of his current success and allowing him ample time to build the team can be intriguing. But not sure how much more they can throw at him compared to UC. But outside of OSU, UC is probably the most prominent school, he’s not going to the MAC from UC, so his only option is leaving the state.

Cincy to The Ville makes a ton of sense.....

The question that always needs to be asked is “does staying in my current situation (Cincy) lead to a better job than Louisville in the next two years?”.

I think he could get a very nice payday at Louisville, but that roster is a trash bin right now. Terrible QB’s, limited skill players, and their defense took a nose dive this year.

I think Luke would be better off passing on the Louisville gig unless they offer insane, life changing money.

young family. kids fully entrenched in parochial schools and UofL is a dumpster fire inside of the athletic department. Fickell will leave eventually but he will stay at least one more year. The only job, IMO, he would leave now for is if he’s called home to Columbus.

Heard his name tossed around the radio yesterday regarding the Louisville job and one point that was made was that sooner or later he is going to have to take a Power 5 job if he wants to start climbing the ladder in coaching.

What'd Fickell ever do to you?

Apparently Appalachian State's Scott Satterfield has, however, emerged as the frontrunner for the Louisville job.

Re: According to the MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) between UC and Fickell, the coach will make a base salary of $1.9 million this year in his first Bearcats season. The salary will rise to $2 million in 2018, then $2.3 million in 2019. Then, Fickell will make $2.4 million each year from 2020-2022. The deal includes buyout numbers for both parties. For instance, Fickell would owe $3.5 million to UC if he leaves before Dec. 31, 2017. That number would decrease annually, to a $750,000 payout by the sixth year of Fickell’s contract.

and

University of Louisville, football coach Bobby Petrino has received a new seven-year contract from the Cardinals worth up to $31.675 million.

I guess Louisville/ACC/$4.5M per year is better than Bearcraps/AAC/$2.4M per year; regardless, I think holding off (and maybe waiting until next year) he could do better than Lousiville.

Script, all I am saying is that he is not going to be considered for any big jobs until he proves himself in a Power 5 conference. I will admit to you that Louisville is not in a very good place right now.

You mean like when Dantonio went from Cincy to MSU, or Kelly went from Cincy to ND, or Butch Jones went from Cincy to Tennessee?
