DT Luke Fickell (HC Wisconsin Badgers)

If Fickell gives the same response when Urban asks the question, there's a problem; otherwise, non-issue. Fickell is not accountable to the media.
Exactly! The defense has been a liability at times, but I still think next year is the season to judge them on. If the LBs and secondary don't improve their game next year i'm all in favor of changes. For now, it's just a transition that is taking a bit longer than expected. I love Combes but I have him more on the chopping block than Fickell. Although I would retain the entire staff another year.

Ohio State DC Luke Fickell when asked what went wrong at Michigan defensively: “What went wrong? Did we win? Did we win?”

I hate seeing people jump to conclusions, one way or the other, based on twitter feed "quotes" from the media.

Full quote, from BuckSkin86' video:
What do you mean, what went wrong? Did we win? Did we win? We won. Cuz I've been up there quite a few times in my 18 year career here. And, uh, have not come away with a win [before]
We know there's things that gotta be corrected. Momentum and things happened, and we didn't play great on the defensive side of the ball. So there's a lot of things to correct, but every single week we have objectives. And the objective last week was to win. And, you know what, we came away with a win. We made a play when we had to make a play. And, uh, you know... as a coach you evaluate everything, and that's the way you get better.

I love Fickell as a recruiter, position coach, player and he's ok as a coordinator..But HC ..All I can see is that deer in headlights look in 2011. That team had some talent and he did not get the most out of it. I know it wasn't the best circumstance but he didn't make the most of that opportunity.

Unbelievable. He was able to hire one person. He hired Vrabel. Ohio State wouldn't be undefeated if Urban was unable to hire his own staff

I still don't see him starting at a Big 10 school..if he really wants to be a HC he'll have to go to the MAC..but what is wrong with being the DC at your alma mater..if its his choice..not all assistants want to be Head coaches.

Going back to rewatch the game, particular the defense, and found some questions that more knowledgeable board members might be able to answer.

On UM's 2nd TD play, I thought we were out-leveraged to the boundary. Shazier got blocked by Lewan, and Barnett got blocked by the center. Spence was left playing the option himself, so he had no shot. I know we had problem last season based on getting outleveraged based on alignment, is this a tangible problem that can be pinned on the coaches?

(tried to attached screenshot but apparently file was too big. Here's a link to the whole game though: )

Wow. I read the whole quote and I still can't believe he said that. It's one thing for fans to be saying that. I took kind of a beating on Saturday because I said that it almost felt like a loss giving up 600 yards to that piece of shit offense that UM has. There was all kinds of "we won so it doesn't matter" talk on here.

It's really disheartening to hear that coming from the DC of all people. Yeah, Ohio State won, in spite of the unit that you are in charge of. The unit that gave up more yards in one day than that UM offense had all month long. Your unit made A PLAY. Thank goodness that Powell made that play, but don't act indignant because someone asked a question about why the unit that you are in charge of played like shit.

Here's another criticism I have for the coach.....outside of the DL, only two other players on this team have recorded sacks this season, and they are Shazier and C. Grant. I understand the need to bring pressure from different angles, but if a player isn't getting there's he's not getting there. If they bring pressure, let's do it with Shazier, otherwise it'd be better to keep Perry/Roby/Powell/Barnett back there playing coverage.

Barnett was wrong on that play, he was supposed to be over the top
