DT Dexter Larimore (official thread)

Comment from a fan on an Indiana high school wrestling board...

I have seen many heavy weights wrestle but I have never seen a heavy weight shoot two double leg takedowns, completed in the first period and then pin the wrestler, but now I have seen it and I will be rooting this young man on to state. He is the real deal. Good luck Dexter on your football career at Ohio State! Go Bucks!!

An AMP feature on Dexter...some clips from his senior year plus an interview. He talks about why he chose OSU and how wrestling helps him in football.

Those were impressive clips, his wrestling backgroudn was really showing, when he was getting low and busting through the gaps and then using his moves to shed the blockers.

The best part about this interview was when he was saying how he wasnt the biggest, or fastest, but he does what he has to do to get the job done. Just want I want a blue-collar kid to come in and just go all out and do what he needs to do to get better.

I like the footwork and balance of a double leg take down. I studied shaui jiao with Matt Mollica (Granview) for years so of course I googled the information. (for that matter I had to google to spell shaui jiao):

[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Double Leg Take Down
A take down that is accomplished by driving an opponent up and forward by grabbing both of his legs (or both ankles), leading to both contestants going to the ground. An alternate version is the single leg take down.

I don't know what that means...but it sounds impressive

It is very ab-normal for a Heavy Weight to be able to shoot under another wrestler and pick him up. Most of the time the top man sprawls and puts all of his weight on the shooter and flattens him to the mat. For Dexter to be able to do this clean is amazing.
Most HW's use upper body throws or heal picks, but they are not quick enough to get a mans leg up in time. Great report ND thanks!

I'm sure its been mentioned before, I haven't read the whole thread, but Tim Anderson was also a state champion wrestler in high school before anchoring the Buckeye Dline in 2002. If Dex plays with the same heart as Tim, he'll have a great career here.

Basically what it equates to (him shooting a double legged takedown) is that he is very quick for a heavy weight. I grew up near Tim Anderson and watched him in high school. Any heavy weight that has quickness and strength combined (Anderson had this) can be devistating.

I love the idea of a stud wrestler coming to OSU to play DL, they seem to have a bit more of a mean streak, and great work ethic.

The most recent individual wrestling rankings are out and
Dexter is the # 3 ranked heavyweight wrestler (according to
Intermat) and the #4 ranked hvy ( according to Amateur Wrestling
News). Not bad for someone who doesn't wrestle year round.
I can't wait to see him next season at the Shoe!

What kind of rankings are those? County, state, national? Sounds good. Keep up the good work Dexter.
