Donald Sterling and his comments

I don't want to hear any of that this isn't the first time stuff. If the NBA cared about his past actions they'd had done something about it then. They didn't seem to care about his past before this. NAACP giving him awards, NBA turning a blind eye. The man may be a dickhead, but what we was caught saying on audio tape illegally is really not that bad.

I am happy to see he is suing the league, bc what they did to him they certainly should not be able to do.
I am a little confused as to why the NBA hasn't moved sooner to oust him from the league. Did they not care? Did they not have enough power? The MLB certainly did with Marge Schott.

With that being said, your argument seems to be that because the NBA didn't do anything then, they shouldn't do anything now. That's a bit of an enabling attitude.

My argument is simple. The man was recorded secretly, that is illegal. Yet they are using an illegal act that would never hold up in a court of law to oust him simply bc they didn't like what he said. What he said was not even that bad. Sure it was arrogant in insensitive, but racist I don't hear it. He asked her not to flaunt those black guys at his games and all over social media 24/7. He didn't blacks are banned from his games, or that blacks should call him master. He asked his woman to quit hoeing around in public so much. Not at all unreasonable. The only reason the NBA acted is bc society has to act outraged when a black person is offended by a white persons statement or otherwise they are also deemed racist. The law will likely see that although a dickhead, Sterling has a point. This lawsuit should be interesting bc it's clear the NBA is on a witch hunt and may have acted above what it realistically should have given the bylaws and circumstances.

I agree, he may be a dick but he doesn't deserve to lose his team. I'd almost completely forgotten about Nazi-Schotzi

They didn't do anything then because it wasn't widely publicized enough to cause any significant embarrassment to the league and their brand. The owners enabled Sterling for a long time. Their motives are money. But at least they're doing the right thing now.

It's legal in several states, but illegal in California. Doesn't matter for purposes of admissibility. The evidence won't be excluded against a party (NBA) that wasn't responsible for the illegal recording. Exclusion would generally be limited to evidence illegally obtained by law enforcement or against the party responsible (the woman). The NBA will be allowed to use it in any court proceeding.

All of this is moot, of course, if he consented to the recording as suggested by Stiviano.

It was racist. Period. Just because he didn't blatantly go all "slavemaster" and segregation on the audio doesn't mean it wasn't racist.

The NBA is going to win. Of this I am confident. Sterling will fight for as long as he can (he'll probably die before it gets resolved), but the NBA is going to win. And the longer Sterling tries to hang on the more permanent the damage he does to the Clippers franchise, diminishing its market value when he is finally forced to sell. No one is going to want to play for that team while he is still the owner.

Looks like the NBA and that hoe Stivano are going to have some nice court room visits in the near future. Definitely an entertaining article.

Good to see he isn't going down without a fight. He may be a dickhead, but the punishments he has received from it are wayyy overly excessive.

That's Donald Sterling for you. "Don't blame me. I was just trying to get my dick wet." Uh, dude, you didn't really think she enjoyed fucking you, right? Don't be mad that she ultimately screwed you over because you should have seen it coming.

Guess we will have to agree to disagree. I just don't think it was racist at all. He is dating a mixed girl, he owns a team where he hired and signed many black people. I am not so sure he is racist, but regardless what he said was not a racist comment. He even said he doesn't care if she sleeps with them, just to stop promoting and showing off all her black guys.

They may or may not. This is a pretty unprecedented case here. The NBA may have its own bylaws, but they very well may be superseded by actual law. Sterling doesn't seem like he cares about the money, the man is old, senile, and has cancer. I don't think he would have any trouble in his mind fighting this thing and costing the NBA as long as he can...
