Dan Wetzel's piece on the verdict is the most powerful piece of literature I have ever read in my life. I cannot get the tears out of my eyes. They're not tears of joy for this monster finally being behind bars, they're tears of pain and sadness for the boys who had their entire lives shattered at this sad excuse of a man.
This verdict is fourteen years too late, and the audacity of these scum bags never ceases to amaze me. I was enjoying some late night pizza at a Georgetown spot and our group, which included an OSU student and two people who come from Manhattan and don't even understand or care about football, started talking about PSU in general. We all made comments that the place has been infested by enablers who let Sandusky walk free in the name of football. Upon hearing this, two women who are alums of PSU rushed to Joe Pa, fucking St. Joe the Great's defense. "He was shitting his pants on the sidelines, so fuck you and your hateful claims," they said. I just sat back and told them to look at the facts, but no matter what I said about how they can't say he was both an amazing human and then a senile sideshow, they still did not get what was at stake. They're so blind and ignorant and callous that the true victims will always be "collateral damage" since football is king in Happy Valley.
Typing this post makes my anger boil over again. Football, man. Fucking football is the reason why these fucking cultists have been blinded. Football is why Sandusky was given an ability, nay, a platform, to ruin so many lives. Football is why they lived, and football is why Happy Valley should die. The feds need to assume control and find a way to restore a sense of normalcy amongst so many sick, twisted people.
But enough of one man's anger and spite. I will continue to pray for every individual that Sandusky harmed, for every individual who put football in front of humanity, and even for Sandusky himself. May we all find perspective in this jumbled mess.
