Disgraced Former Penn State DC Jerry Sandusky (convicted child molester)

if you're joe amendola, how do you really live with yourself during this whole thing? you know the guy did it. you know the guy did it repeatedly to a large number of children. how do you really go out there and brow beat young adults that were repeatedly molested, just in hopes that there are enough ignorant hilljacks, with joe paterno's face tattooed on their calf, on the jury that will let this guy return to society.
Probably the same way he lives with the fact that he knocked up a 16-year old when he was in his 40s.

When is the appropriate time to begin questioning whether the B1G should continue to be associated with Penn State?

The cover-up encompasses the entire university and the community. They were basically an ancient Greek City-State endorsing Sandusky's perverted activities.

I've been saying it for months. Penn State needs to be out of the BiG.

To be fair, he and his defense team are doing an awful job so far (or so it sounds) so maybe he's doing society a favor.

I'm joking...obviously.

I put this asshole in the same category as the lawyers for David Westerfields, who tried unsuccessfully to offer up the body of that little Van Dam girl in exchange for taking the death penalty off the table...then went into court and tried to blame the mother and her lifestyle for the murder in hours of agonizing cross-examination that they knew was false. But you know what? Let the fucker do it...no excuses when his client burns.

You can hate Sandusky and Amendola for all of their "character flaws," but if you start questioning his constitutional right to a fair trail, you're heading down a slippery slope.

The debate as to what constitutes a "fair trial" is beyond the scope of this thread, and has been argued elsewhere several times...but suffice it to say he's getting his day in court...and his lawyer is doing a horrible job.

One good thing about having Amendola and his team giving Sandusky an aggressive defense is that it makes it more difficult for Sandusky to win an appeal based on an inadequate defense if the local jury manages to come back with a conviction. Most of us couldn't do a job like that, but somebody has to, and it's often handled by a slimeball.

But I'll believe in the conviction only when it actually happens.

A point both of us can agree on, and a fuck State Penn for good measure.

This...which is why I said let him do it, then Ol' Jer can burn with no excuses.

I can't believe how many people still want to be adamant that Joe Pa did nothing wrong. "Hey he went up the chain of command and told people he trusted.” BULLSHIT. Unless the head of the BOT and the Vice President of PSU had the authority to arrest and bring charges he was in the wrong. ITS THAT SIMPLE. And Mike McQueary and his father are in the same boat, you go to the police immediately with that information. And there’s no way all the other coaches weren’t aware that something was seen and victims have said they were at least around for the mutual showering.

All this really shows is just how sick a place Happy Valley really is. Child rape? Better tell Joe he'll know how to handle this. Happy Valley reminds me of the island from the original Wicker Man. And that seems to be the standard procedure according to this PSU mental heath professional.

Marsh, Have you never worked in a bureaucracy?ReplyNot only is it the custom for sensitive decisions to be kicked upstairs, it's usually the rule. I ran a PSU mental health unit for several years. If any of my well-trained therapists had reported to the cops or CYS a non-emergency report of child abuse without consulting with me first, I would have crucified him or her. And, if I thought such contact of the authorities justified, I would've notified my bureaucratic superiors what I was going to do before I did it. The idea that Joe could 've just gone off on his own and called the cops or CYS about MM's report without consulting Curley et al. because he was so "powerful" is ludicrously uninformed and/or childishly naive on many, many levels .

If I had notified my PSU superiors that I wanted to make a report in such circumstances, they almost certainly wouldn't have objected, because I was a practicing clinical forensic psychologist (and former criminal justice prof) and they weren't. But if it was an especially sensitive situation, they might've asked me to consult with in-house or outside retained counsel. I probably would've insisted on my own judgment no matter what anybody else said, because I knew the law in the area as well as anybody the university was likely to send me to unless they brought somebody in from Philly or Pittsburgh (not to mention that it would've been primarily my ass and license on the line). But Joe hardly had that kind of expertise, and we're still not sure exactly what MM said to Joe or how he said it and probably never will. (E. g., "It seemed to me there was something sexual going on, but I can't be sure."). So Joe had MM go to Curley and Schultz, presumably with the assumption that not just university attorneys but also Spanier would be consulted or notified -- the latter, incidentally being someone who DID have some of the same expertise as I did, since he had been a family therapist for years.

It does seem to me, then, that not giving Joe a pass on this initial reaction suggests some personal vendetta or agenda. Being disappointed that he didn't go the extra mile afterward when he found out that the incident was being swept under the rug is certainly understandable. Hell, Joe was evidently disappointed in himself in that regard. But failing to buck the system in regard to a matter you're not well informed about after superiors have consulted (purported ) experts is hardly at the same level of culpability as that exhibited by, say, Spanier and the director of Second Mile--experienced professionals who HAD to know that they were violating, respectively, the letter and the spirit of the law. In case anyone has forgotten what 513 is referring to...

Jerry Sandusky?s lawyer, Joe Amendola, got a 16-year- old client pregnant and later married her

In regards to what BuckeyeLiger quoted...

...and said crucified therapists would have in turn walked away with a massive settlement after returning the favor in court.

That being said anal rape of a minor certainly falls under the definition of an *emergency situation in my book.

*
"An emergency situation occurs when a child appears to face immediate risk of abuse that is likely to result in death or serious harm (without intervention)."

So this guy is basically saying that whistle blowers at Ped State are routinely crucified. Color me surprised.

what should really color you surprised is that this dolt totally misinterpreted the argument. if you want to use his example, it would only be after his "well trained therapists" told him and he did nothing, that they should go to the police.

I'd also like to quarrel with his classification of "non-emergency child abuse". To me, a grown man molesting a kid in a shower would classify as an emergency.

but, what is most sad to me is that this sort of rationalization isn't even surprising to me at this point.
