Got some rather startling test results back on my cholesterol and triglycerides this week. Hence I am now on a low dose of Lipitor to reduce things. My good cholesterol is great, but my bad is bad and my triglycerides skyrocketed for some reason this past year. I have been exercising tremendously and eating well, at least I thought. I am definitely really watching my food now and also cutting my alcohol back. I love craft beers so this is difficult.......
My understanding is they block the cholesterol that your body makes as opposed to doing anything with the cholesterol that you put in your body. So, I would assume your body makes good and bad? It's unfortunate that Lipitor (and others like it) don't differentiate the type of cholesterol they try to remove.

Not sure how bad it is....not surprised they went straight to Lipitor ... I would research plant sterols, and depending on the study red yeast rice. If you just need a little bit to help our something like those would work, they end up blocking the cholesterol you eat... My two cents, doctors are way to quick to reach for the prescription pad.My understanding is they block the cholesterol that your body makes as opposed to doing anything with the cholesterol that you put in your body. Thanks Muffler, very interesting article. It is certainly not my intent to be on them long term. I have been doing fish oil up until now as my LDL has been up a bit for 2 years. The concern and move came from a size able increase in both LDL and triglycerides this time around. It is a relatively low dose and I am working on the diet. Interestingly no red rice with statins from what I read.
My cholesterol went from 245 to 170 in two years from just eating oatmeal at breakfast everyday.
This isn't diet or fitness but it is general wellness
