Detroit Red Wings (Official Thread)

Doesn't make up for the Cup loss, of course, but coming back from 2-5 in "hockeytown" to win 7-6 is as good as it gets in November hockey. :banger:

Winning game seven in "hockeytown" to take the Cup 7 months later...priceless. :)

marian hossa just experienced the middle finger of the hockey gods

fuck you, buddy

Scored in only 3 of 23 playoff games.

Maxime Talbot had said he wanted to look into Hossa's eyes during the handshake and tell him he picked the wrong team.

Talbot scored the Pens' 2 goals in game seven...and he got that handshake.

I don't know, you Pens fans should be thanking him. If he had re-signed, you guys would be in an every more serious cap hell than the Wings currently are

Oh I'm glad he's your problem now, not ours, but the way he left could only create resentment. Two years, two teams, two Stanley Cup finals...two losses.

Not anymore.

I really hope Detroit doesn't resign him. They would probably have a fan riot on their hands if they did for the current price and even for a reduced price I don't see why they need to threaten their longterm depth with a playoff choker.

Note to Marian Hossa: Be careful changing lanes during rush hour. You might just feel like this:

2 goals short of a Stanley cup, and you want a complete revamp?

I wouldn't say the Red Wings should "revamp." But guys like Rafalski, Holmstrom, Draper and Maltby probably shouldn't be key contributors anymore.

They still have a strong core of guys in Zetterberg, Datsuyk, Franzen, Helm, etc... You build around those guys.

They also might need to do something with the goalie position.

I love it. I have the utmost hate for the Red Wings, Hossa, etc.........however I feel bad for 1 guy, and that's Zetterburg. The boy is ridiculous, and the only member of the team that I actually like. Franzen is a damn good hockey player, but such a douche.

I wouldn't put Rafalski in the same group as the others. He's still got some good hockey left in him, and with Lidstrom's career winding down, he will be valuable as a veteran very soon. I thought the Wings should have split up Raf and Lid, especially on the PP; having two skilled point men can be counter productive if neither wants to shoot quick. Draper and Maltby should realize they've been lucky to be on good teams this long. They're just to old to play the high energy "crash" line role anymore. Players like Holmstrom tend to have shorter careers, due to the abuse they take. He could probably catch on with another team, but DET should give his spot to a younger guy.
