though i should comment, was that not the first year they had made the playoffs in awhile? 6 or so years? good time to jump on the wagon, huh?

are you a gerard gallant fan?

Actually it was 5 years but that's ok because I saw my first Wings game when we visited Detroit in March of 83

Gallant was decent (especially in the late 80s) but I barely remember his playing for the Wings other than that he always seemed to find a way to score when I got to watch my one or two games per year. Unfortunately I didn't get to watch very many Wings games in the late 80s.

I have to ask why people think Mike is a bandwagon fan?

Not saying he is a bandwagon fan, but I suspect this string of posts from last year's playoffs thread has something to do with it.....

The Wings will find a way to blow game 5 in Detroit and then will get blown out of the building in Game 6 back in Trashville.

And of course the idiot coach won't bother to swap goalies out. Or change up his lineup or even get any intensity from his players. They've tuned him out.

Even if they win the Cup (they won't), but even if they do, it's time to blow it up.

This team has tuned out Babcock. it's old and slow and doesn't appear to be able to bring a consistent effort from shift to shift much less game to game.

Everyone over 35 and NOT named Lidstrom needs to be cut and/or traded. Maybe keep Ozzie too because he's been the best goalie this team has had since Mike Vernon anyway and that counts Hasek in 2002.

This team is too old and slow to get to loose pucks. Holland talks up veteran savvy but vet savvy isn't going to win crap in the playoffs anymore.

They need some younger energy guys and they need to quit experimenting with 40-somethings like Chelios and Hasek and bring up some of the guys from Grand Rapids. It's not like Holland hasn't had the chance to build the minors up - hell it's amazing the Griffins don't win their league every single year.

Win or lose it's time to rebuild from within. and if that means Holland has to go, I'm ok with that too.

Maybe - I'm usually wrong about such things anyway

But to be honest, this series is really starting to feel like 2004....

Yep. Every single one of them. In fact 4 of the 7 you listed aren't likely to be back anyway becuase they are UFAs....

IMO that's not a bandwaggon fan at all... That's like all of us in 2004 complaining about how Zwick needed to be benched and how Coach Bollman should never be allowed to coach again. Then guess what? In 2005 we start to click and everyone's ok with Bollman and Co. I feel sick supporting a Detroit Red Wings fan here because I hate the Red Wings (Go Pens), but what he's pointing out in some of those past posts was just how he feels his team could get better. Obviously he was wrong about saying they've tuned babcock out etc etc, but it shouldn't be taken that he's a poor fan. He's stating his observations and concerns on his team, and nothing more. Heck even if a guy says his team blows and they're horrible (we're all guilty of that I bet at times) it doesn't make someone a bandwaggon fan. Because yes, the Browns BLOW big time. I love them to death and i'll continue to follow them but I'm not going to paint them to be something they're not. If you feel you see an imperfection in your favorite teams does pointing it out make you a bandwaggon fan? Nahh come on that's part of being a hihard fan!

Infact, I usually think the opposite. When i'm thinkin of a bandwaggon fan i'm thinking of a guy who doesn't know his teams' history, who doesn't keep current with the team in the offseason, and only pays attention when they're winning. Does he do those things? No. Not at all so I have no idea where the whole bandwaggon thing comes from as far as the Red Wings goes.

I guess I do have a similar approach as well when my teams aren't winning (constantly venting or trying to find a scape goat so to speak) but IMO that's just a passionate fan wanting his team to get on the ball and win. Do I go away when they're losing? Hell no, not one bit but I want to see my team succeed of course so If I feel I have a solution (however irrational) I want to share it. These solutions have yet to be taken into consideration but hey what the hell I'll pretend like I can do better since i'm on a message board.

I mean guys, I'm a CLEVELAND fan. You know who I consider bandwaggon fans? People who like USC but then their favorite pro teams are the Yankee's, Celtics, and the Dallas Cowboys. If a particular person seems to only follow Championship caliber teams then you got yourself a bandwaggon.

I agree. I was just pointing out where the idea may have come from.

And for the record, if being pessimistic about your favorite team makes you a bandwagon fan, then I'm one, too. Growing up watching Cooper-coached OSU teams has ruined any optimism I may have once had for my teams. I have learned to always expect the worst, so when they succeed, I'm always pleasantly surprised.
