Detroit Red Wings (Official Thread)

The Red Wings do it again...

They signed Franzen on an 11 year 43 (or so) million dollar contract. While the beginning of the contract will be paying him something like 5 million per year for the first 7 years, the last 4 years are essentially 1 million per which (due to the joke that is the NHL salary cap) reduces the cap hit to under $4 mllion per year.

Way to go Bettman!! :slappy:

no, the new cba is expected to allow teams to 1-restructure on the cap or buy out at a restructured cap hit or swap players with restructured caps.

ie basically theyll either buy him out at after the 7th year against a minimal cap hit, trade him at a 1m cap hit or redo the deal to 1m after the 7th year. its a joke, and most of the big market teams are doing it.

Unless a miracle happens in San Jose, next up is definitely Anaheim, which always makes me nervous. I figure we've got about a week to rest, though.

Yeah Anaheim worries me too a bit.

Good young goalie plus they can play the system that can beat Detroit most of the time.

But Detroit should have Draper back and maybe the week off will help Ozzie regroup and heal.
