Defensive Staff Next Year?

Wow this is way more ‘Scorched Earth’ than I was expecting. Can’t say it bothers me at all.

When it's the worst you've ever seen on the field and giving off slight hints of locker room discord, you nuke the site from orbit just to be sure. I really like that mindset. Day is putting some concerns to rest.

Yep he's a good DB coach and elite recruiter. This year he might of missed on some but I can't blame them with no clarity if he'll be here next year plus NIL and all that brings.

As far as Day there are rumors the bears are interested and if Day is leaving and not getting fired like the past however many coaches it would be to the pros

Crazy, but the last Ohio State coach who didn't get fired was Paul Brown.

Eh until Utah game special teams was fine. IF Knowles is coaching LB's they still have everything they had last year. Unless you want some random recruiter to take his place

well some recruiting would be an improvement on Fleming. When your D basically cost you a legit national title shot (this year) and likely a much closer game with a punchers chance (last year) …. running with 4 guys on D might not be the best thing to do in the world… considering when Barnes was split Safeties and Special Teams coach… we seemed just as good as this year…

Agreed. Return game was pretty good, as was kicking and punting. I think most of the ST problems were a result of poor tackling - which hopefully will be shored up with the new defensive staff. If anything, ST play was a reflection on other coaches. Our returners had great vision, speed, and patience which is attributed to Hartline's coaching, and our ST defenders sucked at tackling and angles, which was a result of defensive coaching.

Overall I like it.
Feel bad for Coombs and especially Washington who turned down 2 mill to be DC ad Tennessee last year. Hope he lands on his feet.

Still wish Flemming found a gig elsewhere. Day must think highly of him. Just seems weird as Special Teams have basically been legislated out. Day himself said he would push for the elimination of kickoffs.

I hereby dub Flemming, Milton (From Office Space fame).

And Walton looks like Key from Key and Peele fame. That skit with the names from a college all-star game remains one of my favorites.

“I love my former teammates there in Jacksonville. I had good relationships with my teammates, not just on the defensive side of the ball but on offense as well. I had a good relationship with my coaches. At times we bumped heads, of course, but I think that’s natural when you have guys who have a personality and who are super passionate about the game and want to go out there and succeed ... Especially this past year. Coach [Tim] Walton, he’s probably one of the best [defensive backs] coaches if not the best [defensive backs] coaches I’ve ever had in my life ... The best thing is he was always trying to understand us. A lot of times, people in authority don’t really care to try to understand you as a person.”

High praise from talented nut job Jalen Ramsey. Should have this printed on a card for recruits.
